Thrill for speed, renewed passion for the sport has NWU's Isabella ... (HuskerExtra.com)

Just a sophomore, Hogue has already asserted herself as one of the top sprinters in Division III, and she's hoping to add to NWU's rich sprinting history.

"Just looking at those records on the board at practice every day, it's really inspiring to see, and it's something that I can kind of set a goal towards," said Hogue, who has a season-best time of :24.21 in the 200. "My coaches have helped me put in all the work that I needed to and there's nothing that I can do now to push myself further other than really having that drive in the prelims and finals." Hogue also wants to help add to the legacy of the women's 1,600 relay pipeline, which won seven straight national titles at one point. "Honestly, I had no idea that I would just find this love for the sport that I found at Nebraska Wesleyan," Hogue said. "It's a little intimidating going into it knowing that I have to live up to these expectations," the Conestoga graduate said. That got Hogue wanting to join the races.

A GRIP ON SPORTS • The last Saturday in May means many things to many people. For anyone associated with high school athletics, it means the end.

It will be here later in the week. And the beginning of the preparations for the next. … There is more to life than what happens on the field. Keenan Gray has coverage of the 4A/3A/2A meet in Tacoma, highlighting the state champions. … Elsewhere in the Pac-12 and college sports, we watched a lot of the NCAA softball Super Regionals yesterday, including UCLA’s win over Duke that put the Bruins in another World Series, Oregon State’s Series-clinching win over Stanford and Arizona State’s win over Northwestern that extended that Super Regional to today. The students. Lots of moments to cherish, ones that lift the soul and create a snapshot in the mind that will never fade. The end of the school seasons for that year. Every year high school sports winds through the local institute of learning, setting the bar for the students’ emotions. The teachers. The administrators. My brother in law, while he was a high school principal, always felt the football season’s successes or failures could set a tone that carried through the halls for the final seven months of the school year.

Calgary girls baseball camp encourages players to stay in the sport ... (CBC.ca)

The Sandarac baseball diamonds in northwest Calgary were buzzing with activity on Sunday afternoon, as an inaugural girls baseball camp hit a homerun.

Stanich said she thinks the camp is crucial in offering support to female baseball players, especially younger girls. Often, Siemens said, girls begin to play softball or fast-pitch after a certain age. But we just [wanted to] keep it as wide open and as accessible to everybody [as possible]."
