Depp-Heard trial live updates: Closing arguments and jury ... (NBC News)

The defamation trial brought by Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard is set to head to the jury Friday.

Depp believed Heard was a "nag" for questioning the use of drugs and alcohol, Rottenborn said. "She wants you to believe she was abused countless times over the course of their relationship. "Imagine someone actually thinking that maybe the impact of alcohol and cocaine is ruining their relationship," Rottenborn said. "The lies have grown and metastasized over time," Chew said. These were the words of "America's favorite pirate," Rottenborn said. "That's what he said at the beginning of their relationship." "He expects you to believe him that he didn't have anything to drink on that plane except for maybe on thing of champagne, that's what he expect you to believe," Rottenborn said. "The witnesses Mr. Depp has paraded up here, we're here in person," Rottenborn said. "He blamed everybody in the world: his agent, his manager, his lawyer, Amber, his friends," Bredehoft said. "This was Johnny Depp's best friend of 40 years, until he testified truthfully four years about the drugs and alcohol and [Depp] stopped talking to him." "The exact opposite of this." "Mr. Depp owns his mistake...but in this trial Ms. Heard has been confronted with her lies and the damage she has caused," Vasquez said.

Live updates: Closing arguments underway in Johnny Depp-Amber ... (The Washington Post)

The Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial comes to a close Friday after six weeks of testimony.

Vasquez said Heard did not seek medical treatment after this alleged attack, and that the actress was the actual “monster” in that house. Chew admitted that Depp has said he does use drugs and alcohol, and is known for being chronically late to set. That has to change.” He pointed out that the op-ed doesn’t actually describe any of the alleged abusive acts that Heard testified to during the trial. Judge Penney Azcarate said there “appears to be an Amber Alert” and the phones eventually quieted, after which Rottenborn continued. Rottenborn also presented photographs of a seemingly passed out Depp, and various messages from Depp to his friends in which he writes that he needs to stop drinking. The employee testified that they were able to publish the video of Depp destroying the cabinets in 15 minutes, but Rottenborn said Heard was on a flight during that time. He also played audio in which Depp referred to Heard as a “f---ing c---,” and the video Heard shot in which Depp slams cabinet doors, breaking them, and pours a large glass of wine. “It’s not about whether you think Ms. Heard may have been abusive to Mr. Depp.” “We’re asking you to finally hold this man responsible,” Bredehoft said. Amber Heard’s countersuit revolved around several statements to the media characterizing her claims as a hoax. Depp’s attorneys suggest that Heard was abusive to him, rather than the other way around.

“More than that, what is at stake at this trial is a man’s life: the life he’s lost when he was accused of this heinous crime and the life he could live when he is finally vindicated.” Vasquez also said, “We told you that this would be a performance, the role of her lifetime, as a heroic survivor of brutal abuse.” Closing arguments started around 9:15 a.m. “On May 27, 2016, Ms. Heard walked into a courthouse in Los Angeles to get a no-notice ex parte restraining order against Johnny Depp — and in doing so, ruined his life by falsely telling the world she was a survivor of domestic abuse at the hands of Mr. Depp,” Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, said to kick things off. “In Mr. Depp’s world, you don’t leave Mr. Depp, and if you do, he will start a campaign of global humiliation against you. Later, Rottenborn returned to the legal issue that has largely gotten lost in the shuffle of sensational mudslinging. “They might be a fan of Johnny Depp, but for them to just show up to court one day and act childish like this and stampede people who have invested money to come here, and not stay the whole day,” Lewis said. They shouted, “Johnny! Johnny!” Moments before, Heard’s truck drove up to the courthouse. “I made some friends yesterday and today, and we shared phone numbers and we emailed and took pictures together.” Maryanne, who stood next to Eva, said, “I’ve heard Amber’s stories and accusations that she’s been saying about Johnny Depp, and I just think he needs all the support that he can get, because I don’t believe anything she says.” Her favorite Depp film is The Libertine. “He’s not the man that she said that he is,” said Eva, who has been a Depp fan “for over 30 years.” She was able to get into the courtroom that day. “I’ve noticed empty seats after lunchtime — people who just wanted to get a glimpse of celebrity.” Heard has brought counterclaims against Depp, whom she claimed defamed her through his attorney, Adam Waldman, who described her allegations as a “hoax.” Closing arguments take place Friday morning. I was kind of depressed because of the lies of Amber. She creates too many stories that [don’t] match,” Eva explained. Lewis is among the hundreds of fans who have congregated at this suburban courthouse in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the Pirates of the Caribbean star, who many fervently support.

After weeks of intense testimony, the jury in the Johnny Depp, Amber Heard libel trial will hear closing arguments Friday.

"Johnny has taken enough of my voice," Heard said. Vasquez accused Heard of doctoring the photos and said evidence that Heard has embellished some of her injuries is proof that all her claims of abuse are unfounded. "These words are a window into the heart and mind of America's favorite pirate. Bredehoft said Heard is owed financial and emotional distress damages. "I receive hundreds of death threats … people mocking my testimony," she said. Heard in turn has testified that during that fight, Depp sexually assaulted her with a bottle. "And there is a victim of domestic abuse in this courtroom, but it is not Ms. Heard." Vasquez, who has become internet famous amid the high-profile trial, asked the jury on Friday "to give Mr. Depp his life back" by finding Heard guilty of libel. Rottenborn claimed multiple times that if Heard was abused by Depp even one time, then she wins. "He admits to them. He's not the abuser as Ms. Heard claims and he did not and does not deserve to have his life his legacy destroyed by a vicious lie." “If you do, he will start a campaign of global humiliation against you.”

At long last, jury gets closing arguments in Depp trial (ABC News)

Johnny Depp's lawyers have asked a jury “to give Mr. Depp his life back” by finding his ex-wife, Amber Heard, guilty of libel.

“You either believe all of it, or none of it,” she said. She didn't have to,” Chew said. Vasquez, in her closing, noted that Heard had to revise her testimony about the first time she said she was struck. He said Depp's libel claim must fail if Heard suffered even a single incident of abuse. Depp says he never struck Heard and that she concocted the abuse allegations to gain an advantage in divorce proceedings. When the jury deliberates, it will have to focus not only on whether there was abuse but also whether Heard's op-ed piece can be considered legally defamatory. “She didn't mention his name. If you did tell your friends, they’re part of the hoax.” “If you do, he will start a campaign of global humiliation against you.” Heard filed a $100 million counterclaim against Depp after his lawyer called her allegations a hoax. Heard said Depp hit her after she inadvertently laughed at one of his tattoos. “If you did take pictures, they’re fake.
