This Week In Top Gun: Maverick News: Val Kilmer Shares OG ... (Cinema Blend)

Val Kilmer shows a throwback to being in the Top Gun sequel and his daughter's reaction to see her dad in it.

Just like he rallied hard for Kilmer to be in the previous Top Gun film, according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Cruise said for Top Gun: Maverick, “I’m not making this movie unless Val’s in it.” Bringing legacy characters back is a great way not only to draw fans of the original but for a new generation of fans to learn about the infamous pilot rivalry and see the chemistry between the two leads years later. Luckily, Kilmer had no regrets as he found the whole experience of making Top Gun "enjoyable." To further prove how proud he was of his experience with Top Gun, he share on Twitter a throwback photo of himself and the rest of the cast from the original Top Gun movie. You may remember the character of United States Naval Aviator “Iceman” from Top Gun who was a rival to Tom Cruise’s “Maverick." While its sequel Top Gun: Maverick has the return of Tom Cruise, a Top Gun movie would be nothing without “Iceman.” After begging for a role in Top Gun: Maverick, Val Kilmer's wish came true.

What happened to Val Kilmer and is he in the Top Gun sequel? (9Honey Celebrity)

Val Kilmer is the quintessential Hollywood heartthrob. But when he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2015...

Six years after his diagnosis and Kilmer is delighted to say he is cancer-free. "I can't speak without plugging this hole [in his throat]. You have to make the choice to breathe or to eat. "Speaking, once my joy and lifeblood has become an hourly struggle," he wrote in the book. "Tom was Maverick, but Maverick's nemesis was Iceman. The two went together like salt and pepper," Kilmer wrote in his book. However, last year, Sonantic helped Kilmer to speak again when they assisted producers in the Prime Video documentary about the actor, simply title Val. "I am blessed." This resulted in a desktop-based text-to-speech program that can mimic Kilmer's projection levels and emotions. According to Kilmer, he was not initially contacted by producers to join the reboot. "It didn't matter that the producers didn't contact me. His character has climbed up the ranks and is now Commander of the US Pacific Fleet. He's an actor that I greatly admire, so it was wonderful." Val Kilmer was just 25 years old when he played Lieutenant Tom "Iceman" Kazansky in the original Top Gun film.

'Top Secret!' Blu-Ray Review - 'Airplane!' Creative Team Turn Val ... (Geek Vibes Nation)

Paramount Home Entertainment has released the ridiculous Val Kilmer comedy "Top Secret!" on Blu-Ray. Get our thoughts inside!

Many of the jokes have aged poorly either in terms of the current culture or modern comedic sensibilities, but there is still a solid amount of timeless gags that will have you bursting with laughter. Those who have been waiting to finally own this film in HD might be slightly disappointed that there was not a new master, but it is still the best it has ever looked on physical media. The track accomplishes what it needs to do, but it is not going to put your setup to the test. The presentation is passable throughout most of the runtime with image stability and delineation being generally strong. Instances of outright print damage are few and far between, but overall clarity and detail is lacking quite a bit. Popular and dashing American singer Nick Rivers (Val Kilmer) travels to East Germany to perform in a music festival.

Additionally, this makes the possibility of seeing Kilmer standing amongst the other higher-ups following the completed mission a far more effective choice and more enjoyable to see — even if Iceman would have died off-screen, it would have been nice to see him live long enough to celebrate his friend's success. To those who haven't gone over the cast list with a fine-tooth comb following the film's announcement, it'd be fair to assume that the appearance of Kilmer's gum-chewing alter-ego goes as far as a framed photo at the academy and not much else. Ultimately, though, this heart-to-heart talk leads to what could be one of the poorest plot decisions in "Top Gun: Maverick."
