Coming Soon: Jackson in process of preparing traffic calming ... (Northside Sun)

Virgi Lindsay eagerly awaits the city of Jackson's proposed traffic calming ordinance. “I believe it will be a game changer in the city,” said Lindsay, ...

“I believe that speed bumps would be very helpful in slowing down the traffic that uses those two streets. They do that to discourage drivers from using the street as a cut through, she said. “Speed tables rise more gradually and are longer, about the length of a car so they are not as jarring as speed bumps. “Another example of a location that would benefit from a speed table for those same reasons is the intersection of Lake Circle and Greentree Place.” After that time, a community meeting would be held to give the community a chance to give feedback. I am waiting on the new traffic calming ordinance that the city is working on in order to see what our best options would be.” “At this time, Massena Heights has no plans to install speed bumps or additional traffic calming measures. The ordinance would offer an option for a neighborhood to construct a semi-permanent barrier of temporary materials that could be installed for 60-90 days. “The Villages of Northpointe has three different entrances into our neighborhood,” she said. Street closure is the highest form of traffic calming. “Traffic calming measures have meaningful impact on communities in that they can make them more beautiful and safer,” Lindsay said. Jackson Planning Director Jordan Rae Hillman introduced the proposed traffic calming ordinance at the Greater Belhaven neighborhood town hall meeting earlier this year.

Art Valet: Cabrera's dream comes true with Northside studio (The Leader)

This Saturday is the grand opening of a new art center in Greater Northside, just a 10-minute drive from the Heights. Art in the HEART, 8321 Jensen Dr., ...

She was then awarded a $100,000 grant from H-E-B, Clarkson and Poehler to be used for her dream of a permanent location. She reiterated to me that her boys have been instrumental in the refurbishing of the school bus and design decisions at the Art in the HEART studio. Cabrera said the bus was a huge catalyst to realizing her dream of bringing art out into the world. The entire Cabrera family was flown to Los Angeles for an appearance on NBC’s “Kelly Clarkson presents When Christmas Comes Around” that aired Dec. 1. At the end of 2021, her vision of creating a brick-and-mortar studio was given a big push forward. By the summer of 2020, Cabrera was tired of living in an art wasteland.
