And yet, because we can’t have nice things, the Palpatine and Voldemort criticisms were out in force within an instant, as you can see below. It’s also a notable turn for Bale because he very rarely stars in big budget blockbusters, with Terminator Salvation and Exodus: Gods and Kings marking his only non-Batman big budget outings in the last 20 years. Gorr the God Butcher already coming in for Voldemort and Palpatine criticisms
Thor: Love and Thunder's new trailer features a first look at Gorr the God Butcher and a much better look at Russell Crowe as Zeus.
Thor: Love and Thunder will be in cinemas from July 8, 2022. Aside from the exciting MCU debuts of Bale and Crowe, Love and Thunder will also include a lot of returning characters. The Aussie was only shown from behind in the last one.
The official synopsis of the movie reads: The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he's ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his ...
In the comics, Gorr wanted to kill all the gods because none of them helped his family and people, who died on their planet. Natalie Portman is reprising her role for the first time since 2013’s Thor The Dark World. It’s a long story about how or why Jane Foster is now Thor, but if you want to know all that from the comics, head on over here for my article explaining all that for your convenience. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Thor: Love and Thunder is Marvel's upcoming addition to its Phase 4, making its way to theatres on July 8.
In the film, he has a nose, and his body is painted in grey and white, and the presence of tentacles is also not visible. The one in the comic book doesn't have a nose, wears a black robe, and has tentacles that run from his head and come down to his shoulders. The God Butcher, whom we saw in the trailer, has a few changes from his comic book appearance.
Christian Bale is confirmed to be playing the main villain in Thor: Love and Thunder, so here's everything you need to know about Gorr the God Butcher.
After claiming All-Black the Necrosword from the body of the loser, Gorr gains incredible powers and begins a long crusade to murder every god in the universe. There’s no indication that Love and Thunder will introduce older and younger versions of Thor as in the comics. Are you excited for Gorr to make his MCU debut? Only time will tell exactly how closely Bale’s Gorr is sticking to the source material, as Marvel Studios has kept this villain shrouded in mystery leading up to the film’s release. Even after his death, Gorr’s influence continues to be felt in the Marvel Universe. Gorr planted seeds of doubt in Thor's mind, forcing him to question whether gods truly are as noble and benevolent as they seem. Gorr served as the main villain for the first 11 issues of Thor: God of Thunder. The series establishes Gorr as a once ordinary alien driven to madness by the deaths of his wife and children. And while Gorr is gone, his sword remains. Ultimately, Gorr is destroyed and resurrected as an ordinary mortal, free to live out the rest of his days in peace. He creates a construct of his dead son Agar, who denounces his father's cruelty and labels him "the god of hypocrisy." But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. But after coming into possession of an ancient weapon called All-Black the Necrosword, Gorr gained immortality and a host of other powers like enhanced strength, speed, durability, regeneration and flight. Because his prayers for salvation went unanswered, Gorr decided that all gods are unworthy of the love and devotion they receive from their worshipers.

Thor: Love & Thunder has revealed its villain, who has a deep link to the symbiotes in the comics. But does it mean Gorr is one of them?
Whatever it establishes about symbiotes in Thor: Love and Thunder could certainly be relevant to future Marvel projects, especially if it plans on ever doing a Venom story with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Or, it could be used to set up Knull, whose power level gives him the potential to be a Phase 5 crossover villain. It was because of its power that Gorr evolved into a destructive force and a terror to the gods. The MCU has a few options when it comes to handling Gorr’s symbiote link. And given that the sword is the driving force behind Gorr’s stories, there’s a good chance that just as he was in the comics, Gorr is a symbiote host in the MCU. So while Venom himself has gone back to his own universe, the MCU now has the tools to tell its own symbiote story in a future Marvel movie or show. In fact, it was the first of its kind.
After the release of the new Thor: Love And Thunder trailer, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher is getting viral. Here are the new looks.
Gorr was not introduced in the first trailer of Thor: Love and Thunder released a month ago. But he has to return to fight after a new threat known as Gorr the God Butcher is on a rampage to kill the gods. Even more than Chris Hemsworth as Thor, people are waiting to see Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher in the upcoming movie.
The new trailer features extended looks at scenes from the teaser, like when Thor realizes Jane Foster is back and now wielding Mjolnir. It also contains new ...
Bale’s Gorr looks very much like a human, and it’s not surprising because if you’re going to hire someone like Bale to play a villain, why not squeeze out as much as you can by reminding folks that this is Bale. However, regardless of where you fall on “he’s too human” or “I like it,” it’s hard to disagree that Bale’s Gorr is appropriately metal. For comic fans, one look at Christian Bale’s Gorr, and it’s immediately apparent that this is a very different take.
While the trailer showed more of Natalie Portman's Mighty Thor and Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder, fans also got their first look at Christian Bale, who makes ...
Some of the character's iconic run-ins with Thor came from Jason Aaron's seven year comic run, which began in 2012. While Gorr has been able to slay Gods from Slavic, Greek and other mythologies, Thor has always been a tough opponent for him, with the two battling against each other over the span of many centuries. Gorr's actions eventually lead him towards Thor, who is the Norse God of Thunder.
Thor: Love & Thunder introduces a new iconic villain to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Gorr the God Butcher. Christian Bale plays the alien on a mission to ...
At the very moment he was to activate the Godbomb, Gorr realized that in his quest for power, influence, and self-satisfaction, he had become a god himself. And that was the moment that Gorr the God Butcher was born. Gorr only appeared at the beginning and the very end of that run, but his legacy was felt throughout, as an embodiment of its themes. Enraged that a god would ask him for help after his life of prayer had gone unheeded, Gorr took up the other god’s blade and murdered the first. Jason Aaron and Esad Ribić created Gorr as the first villain of their 2012 series Thor: God of Thunder, which proved a launching pad for Aaron’s seven-year run at the helm of Marvel’s Asgard stories. As Gorr approached, seeing with his own eyes proof that gods existed, one of the armored figures called out to him ... for help.
The new "Thor 4" trailer reveals the grey God Butcher who will be taking on Chris Hemsworth's Asgardian in "Love and Thunder."
Trust in the face of Christian Bale. Need I remind you, it's a pretty goddamn talented face." When the character's action figure was first revealed, there were grumbles among Marvel purists as the movie version has a nose. That question is—how can we believe in a higher power when there is so much suffering in the world? As revealed in the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, another of those gods is Zeus, played by Russell Crowe. Gorr stumbles across two gods fighting, and one of their weapons decides to turn into what the Marvel Wiki poetically calls "an amorphous mass of living darkness." The Thor 4 trailer reveals Gorr as a villain with ashy grey skin, a scarred face and white robes.

To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjölnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. In the newly released trailer, fans will see Thor call on the Gods of Olympus for help, led by Zeus (Russell Crowe), after Gorr brings the titular hero out of retirement when the God Butcher attempts to live up to his name. The hero would have had a lot of time to think about his past life, including his love for Jane who he hasn’t seen in almost a decade. Korg (Taika Waititi) and King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) are seen behind our two lead heroes with the latter riding their signature Pegasus. The Viking ship being pulled by two flying goats behind our ragtag team of gods is a nice touch as well. In the fast-approaching movie, Thor will go on a journey of self-discovery and will be retired when we meet up with him at the beginning of the film. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who—to ...
The only time we see Gorr in color is in a scene clearly depicting the origins of his vendetta. Marvel released a teaser last month that focused on Thor getting his "god bod" back and embarking on the aforementioned journey of self-discovery. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who—to Thor’s surprise—inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. In the trailer, we briefly see Gorr emerging from what appears to be swirls of black tendrils, but he is clad in deathly white elsewhere—an entirely suitable look given his sworn mission. After snagging the dark god Knull's sword, he became the God Butcher until Thor defeated him. (The Internet was abuzz when set photos of Portman leaked in March 2021, showing just how much muscle the diminutive actress had gained for the role.)

And it’s likely that the Thor 4 trailer 2 is cut in a way to prevent fans from realizing what’s going on. But what’s great about the 2:15 minute clip is that a big portion of it is dedicated to Gorr. We speculated before the Thor 4 trailer 2 release that Marvel might have wanted to separate its big reveals. We’ll have to wait until July 8th to see what Gorr is all about. We’ve known that Christian Bale will play the Love and Thunder villain for quite a while. The trailers hid the villain in plain sight while also trying to conceal the reveal, and MCU fans who were oblivious to the leaks were not prepared for the shock.
Shaping up to be one of Marvel's greatest villains, Gorr the God Butcher from Thor: Love & Thunder primarily has his Necrosword to fall back on.
He later lost his wife and children to an earthquake, with his last child dying from starvation. Gorr then killed the gods with the Necrosword and vowed to seek vengeance against all of the other gods for ignoring his prayers, becoming Gorr the God Butcher. We discuss the villain’s powers, explain what the Necrosword is, and provide a bit of backstory on how Gorr became known as the God Butcher.
The new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder introduced Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher, but who is the villain? Find out here.
The creatures — an elder god named Knull and a purple-skinned being in golden armor — were locked in battle. For those wanting to go into Thor: Love and Thunder with a completely blank slate on the character, we’ll mark out the more spoiler-y sections. The trailer only teased the depth of Gorr’s motivation and abilities, as the character has a complicated backstory that stabs right into the core the Marvel universe’s origins.
With the new 'Thor: Love and Thunder' trailer offering fans their first look at Gorr the God Butcher, many are curious about his comic origins.
Another added that the Oscar-winning actor is "on his way to make Gorr the God Butcher one of THE most iconic MCU villains of all times." One of the weapons, All-Black the Necrosword, extends from his arms and is made from living darkness. The God of Thunder's fourth installment follows the title character on his journey to find inner peace; however, his attempts are cut short when danger arises.
Everything you need to know about the god-hating, sword-wielding villain played by Christian Bale in 'Thor: Love and Thunder'
It definitely looks like they'll provide good grounding for Thor: Love and Thunder. This could understandably turn anyone into an atheist, but the dispirited Gorr also happened to be standing in the right place at the right time, right when the Necrosword fell from the sky. And hey, there are now two Thors, so the universe could probably sustain the loss of one, right?
He may look like a cross between Voldemort and Danny Devito's turn as The Penguin, but is he a foe worthy of the Mighty Thor? What do we know about his comic ...
Eventually, he also gains control of the “Pool of Forevers” which allows him to move backward and forward through time at will—and so he spends the following 900 years murdering gods and growing both immortal and unstoppable. This fills him with an unquenchable rage and during the aftermath of the battle, he seizes Knull’s sword (which is none other than All-Black the Necrosword)—a blade made of the first symbiote and tempered by the power of a decapitated Celestial. You know, the usual. However, after growing up an orphan (he watched his parents die when he was a child), and then watching his wife and children die from starvation, Gorr is overcome with grief and declares that gods must not exist or they would not allow such tragedies to keep occurring.
