Will Eurovision's love affair with rock continue for a second year in a row? The Rasmus first stormed the charts in the UK back in 2004 with their catchy ...

It's all these tiny things have to be right, the right time [...] Just like we had back in the day with In the Shadows, it was like a new wave of pop gothic coming, Evanescence, and we were there, slightly different, but slightly the same, and it just happened. Though I felt kind of guilty when we won the UMK [select process] in Finland. The same day we were celebrating our victory, the war started in Ukraine. 'It feels so wrong'. I was on the morning show in Finland talking about the song and the next interview was about the war. LY: It can be but I think in their case, I think it's just the miracle that happened. In times of crisis it's good to have this thing called Eurovision which originally formed to unite the countries of Europe after the world war, so it's better than ever to have it. Actually two of them, the latest one was in Madrid. In the same room together there were like 30 participants, 30 countries from Europe, in the same space, it was very emotional because the Ukrainian guys were there. [goes silent as interrupted]. My friend, colleague, Desmond Child, legendary songwriter, producer, who has written one of the greatest songs I know, Living on a Prayer [etc]. [...] I kind of heard him in this song a little bit and thought he could perfect this with me. But I couldn't come to the same level and vision with him. So this was like a great idea from me to join this craziness of Eurovision. Every since last summer, I got this idea, I wrote the song and I start thinking about the competition at the same time and kind of building my mindset to watch this moment, and having the goal in Italy, in Turin. It was very good because I was really about to lose my mind because of Covid and all the things that went wrong. [connection issue] We found a new guitarist, Emilia, she is wonderful, and all of a sudden all the pieces came together and formed this new Rasmus. She's very like ... every time I try to say something tough and bad she always comes like 'well I did this.' She's the worst. 2004 was a big time in emo music in the UK, I think, and rock music in general. She's really like one of the guys.

Who are The Ramus? Finland's Eurovision entrants go for win two ... (ChronicleLive)

Well known rock group The Ramsus are representing Finland at Eurovision 2022 with their track Jezebel.

But it was almost a decade later that they were heard on radio airwaves across the world when they landed a massive global chart smash with early 00s rock anthem In The Shadows. They are back in a big way in 2002 after winning the Finnish national contest to find a Eurovision entry with Jezebel, written by noted songwriter Desmond Child. Asked why they went for Eurovision, the current line-up said their decision to participate was due to the coronavirus pandemic cancelling all of their tours and performances, try something new and 'bond as a band,' even more. Stiff competition in Thursday's second semi will come from Sweden's Cornelia Jakobs who performed second to last in the second semi and has bee a frontrunner in the eyes of Eurovision experts and bookies since the moment she won Melodifestivalen. Other ones who made it through on Thursday evening were the likes of Czech Republic and well fancied Serbia, while there was heartache for Ireland's Brooke Scullion.
