14 years into the MCU, who hasn't been rumored for a role at Marvel Studios at some point? With an ever-expanding universe filled with casting opportunities ...
Just as every British actor has at one point or another, some have also suggested he could be the right man to finally bring Captain Britain to screens. With Krasinski having been fan-cast as the popular stretchy hero for a long time now, crowd reactions to his debut were immense. Either way, fans can now only hope Marvel Studios can secure Daniel Craig for the MCU before Sony gets a chance to cast him in its Spider-Man spin-off universe. Typically, the spare chair would be removed with CGI, but the symmetry of the scene could make this a tough task, one that the creative team ultimately decided wasn't worth the effort. With an ever-expanding universe filled with casting opportunities for heroes, villains, and everyday people, Marvel Studios will always be looking for talent to bring into the fray. With seven spots on the stage and only six Illuminati members, there may have originally been plans for one more hero to join the team.
A rumor suggests that Daniel Craig was set to play a big role in a recent Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
This actually lines up with rumors that began cropping up before the Doctor Strange sequel was released. Twitter’s heavyspoilers subsequently backed up the claims of Craig’s casting, but reported that the 54-year-old was actually going to play another major player, who has connections to Thor: Interestingly though, Waldron did confirm to CinemaBlend that he did, at one point, have plans to add bizarre hero Phone Ranger to the powerful group.
Daniel Craig was set to make a small cameo as this Illuminati character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness but backed out due to COVID-19.
Although Kroll alludes to Craig originally set to play Mr. Fantastic, other rumors state the actor was going to play the Asgardian Balder the Brave. Balder, who is based on the deity Baldr from Norse mythology, is the half-brother of Thor. While the character has made some television appearances, he has yet to appear in the MCU and was going to make his debut in Doctor Strange 2. Marvel's latest film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, features numerous gasp-worthy cameos and appearances. Back in April, the actor was scheduled to perform on Broadway in the Shakespearean play Macbeth but had to temporarily back out after he tested positive for COVID-19.

Krasinski's fan cast is part of a set as well, being that many fans wish to see Krasinski's wife, actor Emily Blunt, portray Sue Storm/Invisible Woman in a Fantastic Four film as well. According to tweets from Heavy Spoilers and Deadline's Justin Kroll, actor John Krasinski appearing as Earth-838's Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic was not the original plan for the Doctor Strange sequel. The Twitter account also states that Krasinki didn't film for the movie until reshoots took place.
The recently released Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness features a variety of cameos, including the introduction of The Illuminati.
While the inclusion of Krasinski — someone who fans have been hoping would play the official Reed Richards in the upcoming Fantastic Four film — was huge, according to Deadline’s Justin Kroll, he wasn’t always set to play the character in the Doctor Strange sequel. Prior to Kroll’s comments, rumors had swirled that Craig was also tapped to play Baldur the Brave, a character that was rumored to appear in the film as a member of the Illuminati as well. Fun fact, Krasinski wasn’t the first choice, the actor originally set to play the role was all set to shoot but when there was an uptick in COVID cases, he backed out as he was living in London and didn’t think the quick shoot wasn’t worth risk of bringing back COVID to the fampic.twitter.com/sD9nT0omki

Marvel fans can't handle finding out that James Bond star Daniel Craig almost cameod in 'Doctor Strange 2.'
Although if Marvel wants to cast him as one of the Fantastic Four, it seems people would be up for it. According to Kroll, Craig was due to travel to the film’s set to spend one day shooting his cameo, but concerns of rising COVID cases at the time led him to back out. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness treated fans to a range of cameos from familiar faces, but it turns out the latest Marvel movie could’ve also featured an appearance from 007 himself.
There are rumors of Daniel Craig turning down a major cameo role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
If the rumors are true, then it would suggest that Daniel Craig is interested in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even if the Balder cameo didn't work out for Doctor Strange 2. The new Marvel sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness brought some pretty big surprises when it was released in theaters this month, and Daniel Craig was reportedly almost among them. Kroll also claims that James Bond actor Daniel Craig was originally slated to appear in that spot.

As it turns out, however, Krasinski wasn't Marvel's first choice to play the patriarch of Marvel's First Family. In fact, another Hollywood A-lister was first expected to play the role. According to Deadline's Justin Kroll, Bond alumnus Daniel Craig was set to play Richards but eventually opted to pass because he didn't want to risk bringing COVID back home to his family.
Daniel Craig almost appeared in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" instead of another surprise cameo.
It turns out another famous actor was even closer to appearing in the crossover event: Daniel Craig. Kroll included a gif of Daniel Craig, implying he was the actor in question, and said he backed out because of a rise in COVID-19 cases in the U.K. at the time. A significant portion of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” takes place in another universe where Stephen Strange meets the Illuminati, a group of superheroes comprised of Professor X, Baron Mordo, Maria Rambeau’s Captain Marvel, Captain Carter, Black Bolt, and Mr. Fantastic. The latter was played by John Krasinski, but Deadline’s Justin Kroll tweeted that a different actor was originally set to appear instead.

To me, casting Craig as Balder makes more sense, as it’s easier to see him in that role than as Reed Richards. But I also can see why Balder would have been cut, as I don’t think it would have made as much of an impact as the other cameos. As for Daniel Craig, even if he retires from being James Bond soon, I’m not sure where and how he might land in the MCU someday. Not sure if true, what that might do to Krasinski’s chances to keep the role for the actual Fantastic Four movie coming up if he was only slotted in as an alternate. It would have been more like “why is Daniel Craig dressed up as Thor?” For the MCU’s part, Loki probably would have made more sense as an alternate Thor. Instead, they just didn’t have anyone. And he was meant to be played by Craig. In the comics, Balder is Thor’s half-brother and the two frequently fought side by side. One is that Craig was originally the first choice to play Mister Fantastic, but dropped out due to COVID spikes, and as such John Krasinski was brought in as a second choice.
In response those rumors regarding Daniel Craig in Multiverse of Madness, Bosslogic makes a case for a Mr. Fantastic who doesn't give a d-mn.
Elizabeth Olsen never met members of the Illuminati while filming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Krasinski presumably filmed his cameo in front of a green screen before being edited in. Ignoring the rumor that Craig was originally set to play Mr. Fantastic, other reports say the actor was considered for the role of Thor's half-brother, Balder the Brave. Rather than turn him into spaghetti, Scarlet Witch would've reportedly convinced this member of the Illuminati to take his own life—which is arguably more disturbing than the Aliens-inspired scene. Ever since it was announced the sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange was titled Multiverse of Madness, fans expected Sam Raimi’s film would open the flood gates and feature a variety of variants. Saturday, Deadline’s Justin Kroll shared a Twitter post in which he revealed 007 himself backed out of a major Illuminati cameo, saying "Krasinski wasn't the first choice" for that surprising role. However, if the rumor concerning Tom Cruise’s Tony Stark/Superior Iron Man proves anything, it’s that fans shouldn’t necessarily believe what they read online. A new piece of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness fan art imagines what Daniel Craig could have looked like had he been cast as Mr. Fantastic. Marvel Studios projects like WandaVision, Loki, What If…?, and Spider-Man: No Way Home have gradually developed and utilized the MCU’s multiverse.

It was always about what's right for the story, what's right for Stephen Strange, what's right for Wanda. It was never about fan service, really. While you won’t get to see Daniel Craig, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still an entertaining ride. You can catch the Doctor Strange sequel in theaters now. He’ll be returning to his role from Knives Out to play the detective again in Knives Out 2, which is expected to release before the end of the year. While Reed Richards is a cool addition to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s not a major role in the movie. Cumberbatch turned down the villain role of Malekith for Thor: The Dark World and ended up playing Doctor Strange instead in a few of the top-grossing movies of all time. Although the Tweet mentions that Daniel Craig was going to play Reed Richards, other rumors indicated that Craig was going to appear as Balder the Brave. Balder is the Asgardian half-brother of Thor (in Marvel and Norse Mythology), so this would have been an interesting role too.
