Chelsea vs Liverpool LIVE: FA Cup final build-up, team news, line ... (The Independent)

Follow all the build-up to the big match as Liverpool meet Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

‘Yeah, I think I of course want to be on the pitch, and recently with the limited times that I have had, I have been trying to make as big of an impact as I can. One of the cliches used around the cup is that it gives a chance for ‘unfashionable teams’ to capture the public imagination. In the mid-60s, Liverpool and Chelsea were the most fashionable sides in the game.” It has been a source of frustration, most of all to his father, who took to social media to complain about how his son is not used more. Follow live coverage of Chelsea vs Liverpool in the 2022 FA Cup final, below: For much of the past two decades there have been attempts to manufacture a rivalry between the clubs that goes beyond the natural levels of antagonism. A modern rivalry, steeped in FA Cup history. Chelsea will also be desperate to avoid becoming the first team in FA Cup history to lose three consecutive finals, after they were beaten by Leicester and Arsenal in 2021 and 2020 respectively. Chelsea cruised through their opening encounter, with Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Romelu Lukaku and Andreas Christensen all on target in the first half. It remains a possibility for Jurgen Klopp’s side, even if Manchester City are closing in on the Premier League title, but Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel will be out for revenge as they aim to win the competition for the ninth time. Kepa Arrizabalaga was the extra-time hero for Chelsea, saving Ryan Hardie’s spot-kick to sneak the Blues through without the need for a shoot-out. The Blues had no real pressure dealing with Middlesbrough, however, and progressed to the last four.

Chelsea v Liverpool: FA Cup final – live! (The Guardian)

Minute-by-minute report: Who will come out on top when the duo contest their second final of the season. Find out with Rob Smyth.

So even though Chelsea are current world champions, Liverpool have a stronger case to be the best team on the planet, and indeed in the solar system. Thomas Tuchel needs to make a call on the fitness of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, neither of whom are 100 per cent fit. (That lot on Neptune are still playing the W-M formation FFS.) The recent form of both clubs makes them odds-on favourites today, though Chelsea looked a lot perkier when they dismantled Leeds in the week. One of those was a 2-1 victory over Liverpool a decade ago, when Petr Cech made one of the great FA Cup final saves. This is the 150th FA Cup final; none of the previous 149 have involved one recent world champion, never mind two. Then, on 17 May 1997, they beat Middlesbrough in the FA Cup final to win their first major honour in 26 years.

FA Cup final: Chelsea vs. Liverpool live score, updates, highlights as ... (Sporting News)

Updates, score, team news and highlights from the FA Cup final at Wembley, as Liverpool continue their quadruple dream against Chelsea.

15 mins to KO: In the programme here at Wembley, American superstar Christian Pulisic - who scored in the 2020 FA Cup final loss to Arsenal - spoke of the importance of inspiring those in his homeland. Chelsea's recent record in the FA Cup is stronger, having won it five times since their rivals' last success. They'll take on a Liverpool midfield of Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Thiago, following the injury in midweek to key man Fabinho. 50 mins to KO: In addition to the Carabao Cup stalemate, there was nothing to separate the rivals in their two league games this season, either. The Chelsea man had come out on top in the early knockings, but Diaz then tees up the Reds' first chance of the game, with his cross agonisingly unable to be met by Thiago. Deafening atmosphere from the Merseyside giants' fans in the buildup. 27th min: After a spell of light Liverpool pressure, Mount bursts forward to play in the onrushing Alonso for another golden opportunity, but Alisson comes up big to deny the Spaniard fantastically. Chelsea in all yellow, Liverpool in their traditional red. The Belgian has struggled to make an impact in this first half. Chelsea will be the happier of the two sides, after Klopp's men failed to make the most of their fantastic early pressure, particularly through Diaz, who was electric in his buildup but also somewhat wasteful. WEMBLEY STADIUM, LONDON — For the second time in three months, Liverpool face Chelsea at the home of football. 46th min: The second period is underway here, and it begins with Chelsea on the front foot.

Liverpool FA Cup final team vs Chelsea predicted as Naby Keïta ... (Liverpool.com)

Liverpool take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley later today. Here, three of our writers select the starting XIs we would like Jürgen Klopp to ...

Meanwhile, Thiago Alcântara is a shoo-in and alongside him Naby Keïta, will have an important role to play — this time at least he will be prepared and expecting to start as well, unlike in the Carabao Cup final. Ibrahima Konaté and Kostas Tsimikas have made a strong case to start in recent weeks, but I expect Liverpool to go with the experience of Joël Matip and Andy Robertson instead. There will be no headaches for Jürgen Klopp in terms of match selection heading into this final. However, Matip has done nothing to lose his place, and the concentration and nous of the senior option should be preferred on this occasion. Sometimes I'll throw in a wildcard shout for the sake of manufacturing some disagreement with Matt, but it's hard to look past his selections for the final. Meanwhile, the goals have certainly not dried up for Mané, who has made himself undroppable through the middle.

Chelsea vs Liverpool, live! Score, updates, how to watch FA Cup final (NBC Sports)

Chelsea vs Liverpool promises to be an epic FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday as Jurgen Klopp's machine aim to keep their quadruple hopes alive.

Tuchel has plenty of options in attack and he went with in-form Romelu Lukaku in a central role with Pulisic and Mount underneath him. The two have meet 191 times in history. Welcome to a glorious sunny day here at Wembley. What a setting for what should be an incredible final between two giants of the English game. Wow. Liverpool well on top and Diaz is having the time of his life out there. Best bit of play for Chelsea as Reece James finds Romelu Lukaku in the box but he handled and the whistle goes. A cross is then whipped in but Salah heads over. The ball fell to Pulisic but he dragged his shot just wide. As for Chelsea this is the fourth major final Thomas Tuchel has reached in just over a year as Blues boss (two FA Cup finals, one League Cup final and the Champions League final) and he would dearly love to win this trophy to go along with the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup Chelsea have already added to the trophy cabinet in 2021-22. That is a big blow for Liverpool and let’s see if he’s going to be fit for the Champions League final. Pulisic looks to the sky in disbelief. Good play from Jota in the build-up. Given the fact they already have the League Cup trophy, are just behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race heading into the final two games and are in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid in Paris on May 28, this final represents the start of what could be an historic two weeks for Liverpool, even by their own high standards.

Highlights: Liverpool Beat Chelsea In Another Wembley Shootout To ... (Sports Illustrated)

Liverpool won the FA Cup for the eighth time in their history on Saturday by beating Chelsea in a tense final at Wembley Stadium.

As a consequence, extra time was a scrap and the quality level dipped. Diaz and Andy Robertson then crashed efforts off the post as Liverpool applied pressure in the final 10 minutes of the 90. And the Colombian was one of three players to hit the woodwork in normal time. Liverpool won the FA Cup for the eighth time in their history on Saturday by beating Chelsea in a tense final at Wembley Stadium. Liverpool keeper Alisson started the move with a precise chip to Luis Diaz, who four passes later was sent racing through on goal by a piece of Trent Alexander-Arnold brilliance. The 2021/22 FA Cup had witnessed some spectacular goals on the road to Wembley but Liverpool almost scored a contender for Goal of the Season early in the first half.

Liverpool win FA Cup for eighth time after beating Chelsea on ... (The Guardian)

Kostas Tsimikas was Liverpool's penalty hero as they won the FA Cup for the eighth time with another shootout win over Chelsea after a goalless 120 minutes ...

The weight on the ball from Pulisic was perfect but Alonso’s first touch was poor and it made Alisson’s block a formality. Liverpool repeatedly worked it towards the left at the outset and Trent Alexander-Arnold created a huge chance for Díaz with a sumptuous outside-of-the-boot pass. The atmosphere pulsed and it was Liverpool who laid down the early marker, with Díaz prominently involved down the left. Alisson was the Liverpool hero in the second round of sudden death, going the right way to deny Mason Mount and clearing the way for the Liverpool substitute Kostas Tsimikas to win it. There were big opportunities for Christian Pulisic and Marcos Alonso in the first half and Alonso again after the interval. For a snapshot of the drama, look no further than the 60 seconds or so from the 83rd minute when Liverpool created two openings and hit each post at the end of them.

Jordan Henderson lifts the FA Cup after Liverpool's shootout win over Chelsea. Wembley Stadium, London (CNN) There is something about this Liverpool team.

Just as in the League Cup final, a scoreless 120 minutes belied the quality of the match. Robertson hit the post with seven minutes to go before Diaz again took aim. Again, Alonso was denied from getting on the scoresheet, this time by the crossbar as his menacing free-kick hit the woodwork. The match was just minutes old when Liverpool got its first chance. It was entertaining. It was breathless.

Chelsea vs. Liverpool score: Reds win FA Cup in shootout ... (CBSSports.com)

Liverpool followed up by hitting the other post in less than a minute. For only the sixth time in FA Cup history, the final is level after 90 minutes. While there was contact between him and Alexander-Arnold this is a game that has given the players room to foul a bit more than usual. It was surprising to not see van Dijk play 120 minutes in the match so it has to be a thought going through Klopp's head. In extra time he had a big chance that Joel Matip played perfectly to stop but in what has been a trying season for Pulisic, he still showed how dangerous he can be in a Chelsea shirt. Matip's fresh legs were able to stay with Pulisic and stop his chance from ending in a goal. After a strong start to the match, Liverpool were out of energy after the 60th minute and if they plan to put everything possible into trying to win the Premier League, the team will need to push plenty of goals past Southampton. They trail City not only by three points, but also by seven in goal difference. It's another victory for Jurgen Klopp over Thomas Tuchel as well, after Liverpool bested Chelsea on penalties in the EFL Cup final in February. And it's also Chelsea's third straight FA Cup final loss, a record in the 150 year history of the competition. Lukaku only took one shot during the match and while he did create chances for Christian Pulisic by drawing in multiple defenders, he didn't do enough on his own when it mattered and was subbed out for Ruben Loftus-Cheek in extra time. There was no messing around for Tuchel who had swapped keepers at the end of extra time ahead of the last shootout these two teams played, back in the League Cup final. While Liverpool came out of the gate hot, adjustments from Thomas Tuchel and strong defending from Thiago Silva kept things close for the 120 minutes before another epic shootout between the two teams. The match was deadlocked at 0-0 after the sides played 120 minutes but Liverpool won the penalty shootout 6-5 to lift the FA Cup on the tournament's 150th anniversary.

Player Ratings: Chelsea 0-0 (5-6 pens) Liverpool | FA Cup Final (Sports Illustrated)

Third time was not the charm for Chelsea after slumping to defeat to Liverpool 0-0 (5-6 pens) at Wembley in the FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon.

Brought some steel and energy to the centre of the pitch when others were waning. With barely any room to breathe in the engine room, the Croatian dynamo did well a number of times to escape from the grasps of a hungry sea of red. Was always going to be a tough assignment up against livewire Diaz, who sprung in behind far too often. And they were dreaded for a reason, with Alisson Becker denying Mason Mount in sudden death. But the siege began in earnest again, with The Reds clattering the woodwork twice in a matter of minutes as regulation time drew to a close. But the best chances actually came via Christian Pulisic and Marcos Alonso, serving a timely reminder of the Blues' threat on the counter.

Liverpool's FA Cup win completes the double, but can they shake off ... (ESPN)

Liverpool were exhausted by the end of Saturday's FA Cup final, but held on to win. Now can they find the energy to keep the Quadruple alive?

Yet they might also be needed at Southampton and, if Liverpool win that game, at home to Wolves on the final of the season next Sunday. They are all must-win fixtures, but players can push their physical and psychological limits only so far, and the situation with Fabinho, Salah and Van Dijk is a testament to do that. And that is the biggest problem now facing Liverpool in their quadruple quest: do they have enough time to play, win and recover before their next challenge? That fate has already befallen Fabinho, who missed this game because of a hamstring strain suffered in the 2-1 win at Aston Villa in midweek, but Klopp is confident that the Brazil midfielder will be fit to face Real. History tends not to remember the losers, and Chelsea's failure to win again will quickly be drowned out by a red tide of Liverpool plaudits. It is now two down, two to go, after a second cup final penalty shootout win against Chelsea this season saw Jurgen Klopp's team add the FA Cup to the Carabao Cup they lifted at Wembley three months ago.
