DJI officially announces Mini 3 Pro (The Verge)

New image sensor, larger aperture, vertical filming, bigger battery, and a lot more expensive.

On top of all that, you can add the Fly More Kit bundle for an extra $189, which includes two extra Intelligent Flight batteries (the standard ones that still keep your drone sub-250g), a charging hub, two sets of propellers, and a shoulder carry bag. While it doesn’t have physical sensors in the back, it does have backward sensing with the help of other sensors. You can pre-order the Mini 3 Pro starting today, and there are many bundles to choose from. The Mini 3 Pro is also capable of capturing photos up to 48MP. All of that footage is captured on a new camera with an f/1.7 aperture, which is great news for everyone enjoying low-light drone photography and videography. Correction May 10th, 11:55AM ET: The article originally stated that the Mini 3 Pro doesn’t have backward sensing capabilities. Mini 3 Pro is also capable of other intelligent flight modes, like MasterShots, which was introduced in the DJI Air 2S and sends out your drone to autonomously create a short edit based on pre-programmed flights. DJI says, “There is a potential to be compatible with other drones in the future.” The Mini 3 Pro has a new and slightly larger 1/1.3-inch sensor compared to the 1/2.3-inch sensor found on the Mini 2, capable of filming video at 4K up to 60fps and HDR at 4K up to 30fps. But, as of right now, DJI won’t confirm that any such drone is in the works. The newly announced Mini 3 Pro comes with a new design, 4K60 video, a larger image sensor, a larger aperture, obstacle avoidance sensors, and even an option for a bigger battery. However, using the bigger battery means that your drone will be heavier than 250 grams, so don’t forget to register your drone with the FAA if you’re planning on spending more on the “Fly More Kit Plus” that comes with that battery. But there’s also an option to buy an “Intelligent Flight Battery Plus,” which allows for an impressive maximum flight time of 47 minutes.

DJI Mini 3 Pro drone officially announced: Top 10 things to know (DroneDJ)

But this drone comes with more built-in features than any other DJI drone its size, namely enhanced flight performance, camera system, battery life, and ...

In addition, to allow for more choice, the Mini 3 Pro also introduces an extended flight battery option for the first time in DJI drone history. And this is why DJI had decided to meet everyone’s needs by making the Mini 3 Pro compatible with both the new DJI RC as well as the RC-N1 remote that current Mini owners already have. Even though the Mini 3 Pro is under 249 grams, DJI has still managed to extend its flight time. The new DJI RC is lightweight so you don’t get tired holding it, and it comes with a 5.5-inch built-in touchscreen. The combination of its portability, 4K/60fps video, ActiveTrack, tri-directional obstacle sensing, and 90° gimbal rotation for social media-friendly content, all while extending the flight time to well over 30 minutes, is simply too good to pass up on. The Mini 3 Pro is a portable, powerful drone that comes packed with imaging versatility, excellent flight capability, and plenty of intelligent shoot modes that would allow you to fly mini but create big. The DJI Mini 3 Pro is available to pre-order now, with shipping expected later this month. With a single tap, you can do the following: The Mini 3 Pro sits pretty at under 249 grams. Mini 3 Pro’s enhanced imaging system is powered by a 1/1.3-inch CMOS camera sensor with dual native ISO – a capturing technology you’d typically associate with cinema and some micro single cameras. The forward and downward sensors have a wider field of view, providing seamless coverage for better route planning and environmental awareness. The new design also mounts forward and backward dual-vision sensors at the very front of the drone, broadening the sensing range for even safer flight.

DJI Mini 3 Pro review: 249g pocket drone plays with the big boys (9to5Mac)

DJI's Mini 3 Pro takes many of the pro features of its bigger drones and packages it up in a pocket size. How does it perform?

The DJI Mini 3 Pro Fly More Kit Plus retails for $249 USD and includes two Intelligent Flight Batteries Plus, one two-way charging hub, two sets of propellers, and one shoulder bag. The DJI Mini 3 Pro Fly More Kit retails for $189 USD and includes two Intelligent Flight Batteries, one two-way charging hub, two sets of propellers, and one shoulder bag. The DJI Mini 3 Pro is available for pre-order today from store.dji.com and most authorized retail partners in several configurations. The image quality is approaching the DJI Air 2S however, which might be a dilemma in DJI’s product strategy (why buy an Air 2S when the Mini 3 is cheaper and more portable?) In my experience, it was much easier to fly than rigging a phone to a controller and using the app. Probably the biggest step up on the Mini 3 Pro is the camera that now plays with the big boys, featuring 4K 60fps (30fps in HDR) and up to 48mp stills. If the Mini 3 is flying sideways, it is naked in terms of obstacle avoidance. DJI is at it again, bringing technology from its bigger, more expensive products down to its diminutive sub-250-gram DJI Mini 3 Pro drone, which means you don’t need a license to fly it in the US and other jurisdictions. Anything to the left or right is blind which means you can’t get great follow shots without flying blind to obstacles. DJI says the Mini 3 has “Tri-Directional Obstacle sensing” which is a little bit misleading. It is genuinely hard to believe how long these little batteries keep this thing aloft. You can see above that the drone loses the pickup for various reasons.

DJI's Mini 3 Pro Is a Tiny Powerhouse of a Drone (gearpatrol.com)

DJI's newest drone, the Mini 3 Pro, takes professional-like flying, video and photo capabilities and packs them into a petite frame. Rea.

You can fly the Mini 3 Pro and keep your smartphone in your pocket. A definite nice trick for those who are mainly going to use the Mini 3 Pro for social media purposes. The Mini 3 Pro boasts a camera with a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor and a f/1.7 aperture. The Mini 3 Pro has more object avoidance sensors than any previous "Mini" drone, which basically makes it nearly impossible to crash. Additionally, the Mini 3 Pro is slightly more affordable, and it comes with a few "quality-of-life" improvements that make flying the Mini 3 Pro a breeze. DJI has officially announced its newest drone, the Mini 3 Pro, and the name is no joke.

DJI Mini 3 Pro Is the TikTok Creator's Dream Drone (CNET)

This drone offers true vertical video shooting for all your TikTok and Instagram Reels needs.

Swapping the battery out is also dead simple, as you can just pull it straight out of the back of the drone and swap in a fresh one. I love being able to pack it up with the rest of my photography gear so easily, and being able to shoot vertically is a real bonus for landscape photographers, like me, who sometimes want those portrait-orientation pictures. I haven't spent long with it yet, but already the Mini 3 Pro is one of my favorite drones DJI has launched in recent years. At a little over half a pound and not much bigger than a standard can of Coke, it's so easy to chuck into your bag and take out and about -- just in case you want to get some beautiful aerial footage wherever you end up. Those sensors also allow for automatic flight modes for those times you want to put yourself in the frame and have the drone follow your movements. The huge rise in vertical videos on TikTok and Instagram Reels means that it's just as common to see people shooting with their phones held upright, rather than on the side.

DJI's Mini 3 Pro Drone Finally Adds Obstacle Avoidance and ... (Gizmodo)

The drone still weighs less than 250 grams, so recreational flyers don't need to register it with the FAA.

The other big upgrade arriving alongside the Mini 3 Pro is a new remote controller called the DJI RC that features a 5.5-inch touchscreen display built right into it, providing access to the DJI Fly app. The DJI Mini 3 Pro starts at $669—$219 more than the Mavic Mini 2, and that’s without an included controller. The new DJI Mini 3 Pro seems like a welcome improvement in every way imaginable, but the pricing could be problematic for some. The most compelling reason to upgrade or opt for the DJI Mini 3 Pro over previous models is the addition of forward, backward, and down-pointing sensors, which provides “Tri-Directional Obstacle Sensing” for the first time. The DJI Mini 3 Pro features a design that’s very similar to the company’s older Mini drones, with arms that fold away for portability, and it carries forward many of the Mavic Mini 2's best upgrades. For the first time, DJI Mini 3 Pro users can also swap in an optional larger battery that extends flight times to 47 minutes, and while it will push the drone’s takeoff weight past 250 grams when installed, there’s no obvious indication the drone is heavier as a result, aside from the battery not including the 249 grams branding.

The enhancements onboard DJI Mini 3 Pro already make it an excellent flying camera, but that’s not all. Digital video zoom at up to 2x is available in 4K, 3x in 2.7K, and 4x in Full HD. Among the key pieces of user feedback we’ve applied, DJI Mini 3 Pro also has improved image performance with 2.4μm pixels that capture more image detail, which is especially helpful in low lighting and night. Whether posting to traditional horizontal-focused channels or rapidly developing short-form channels that prioritize a vertical format, the Mini 3 Pro’s combination of flight, camera and intelligent systems enables users to showcase their creativity.” One unmistakable result of this exploration with Mini 3 Pro is a completely new structural design that brings several performance enhancements. DJI has a quasi-monopolistic hold over the consumer drone industry with no other brand even coming close in market share.

There's also an extended-use "Intelligent" option for those with more demanding requirements, which stretches the battery life to 47 minutes. As usual with this series, the drone weighs under 249g which allows for license-free flight in the U.S. Somewhere between those two extremes lies a new offering in the company's Mini range catering to those looking for a more portable option with major upgrades to performance.

DJI Mini 3 Pro launched: form factor 'Mini', features 'Pro' (AndroidPIT)

DJI launches another mini drone at sub-250 grams weight. The DJI Mini 3 Pro boasts a new 48MP camera sensor and better battery life.

In terms of pricing, the DJI Mini 3 Pro is available for pre-order at $669 or $759 with the standard RC-N1 controller. Surprisingly, DJI has also added a vertical shooting mode and the company's new Tri-directional Obstacle Sensing that uses a set of visual sensors placed at the front, back, and bottom of the device. DJI says that the Mini 3 Pro model boasts a longer flight time at 34 minutes, thanks to the better structural design on the drone's arms and propellers. It includes a 5.5-inch HD display for remote viewing of the drone's view for up to 18.5 kilometers flight distance. The sensor is paired with a f/1.7 aperture which is significantly wider than the heavier Mavic Air 2 and promises a better low-light performance. At 249 grams, the third-gen drone is comparable to the Mini 2 but boasts an improved design and better specs.

DJI Mini 3 Pro In-Depth Review (Including Sports Tracking) (DC Rainmaker)

It adds 4K/60FPS shooting modes, up to 46 minutes of battery life, a slew of new photo and video modes, and even a new remote control with a built-in display.

It’s just so good, and so lightweight, and basically the same size as the existing DJI controllers that lack a screen. DJI was able to confirm that my specific serial number was part of a batch of units that had a manufacturing error, and the company says that’s been resolved and that batch has been returned. If you spend 80% of your time tracking sports, then go Skydio. If you spend 80% of your time doing other photo/video then go DJI. If you’re in the middle? The front sensors have a 90* vertical field of view, and a 106* horizontal field of view. Whereas the rearward sensors have a 73* vertical field of view and a 56* horizontal field of view. Stability-wise of the gimbal and ensuring the camera has a stable platform to shoot from, is the usual DJI perfection. The aperture is f/1.7 with a focal range of 1m to infinity, and a default field of view of 82.1*, equivalent to a 24mm lens. It just uses a USB-C port on the side to charge, and has a USB-A port for charging other things (like the controller). It has LED’s on the backside to see battery status. I like that all this stuff easily fits in the single DJI drone bag, and then I can use my laptop charger to charge it all on the road. In terms of usable brightness, on a sunny beach day, I found the DJI RC basically the same as my iPhone 13 Pro in terms of viewability/visibility. That’s likely because the iPhone 13 Pro on a hot/sunny day will quickly overheat and lessen the display brightness significantly, thus, you’re down to the same comparative ranges. Of course, the goal of this drone isn’t to be at the same level of autonomy as something like the Skydio 2/2 Plus. Instead, it’s to be ultra-portable at under 250g (albeit, plus a controller), and also to be more general-purpose for getting non-sports shots if you want. Now, I’ve been testing a media loaner for a bit now, getting in plenty of shots and testing – enough to understand the pros and cons.

Tiny Drones Just Went Pro—Introducing the DJI Mini 3 Pro (No Film School)

When it comes to drones and gimbals, DJI is the name to beat. With the new DJI Mini 3 Pro, that just got a little harder.

With a new design, DJI will also release a new controller to justify the Pro badge. Since the unit is so light, you won’t need to register with the FAA—just please be careful where you fly this thing. A redesigned shell cradles a new camera unit with a larger sensor at 1/1.3” compared to the 1/2.3” of the Mini 2. DJI has also included Hyperlapse and Digital Zoom to really fill out your toolkit. With the new DJI Mini 3 Pro, that just got a little harder. Video resolutions have been increased to 4K60p at a resolution of 3840 by 2160, and 120fps slow-motion has been added when in FHD mode. Tri-Directional Obstacle Sensing now offers forward, backward, and downward dual-vision sensors while the Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems or APAS 4.0 detects objects in real-time, keeping your flight path clean. And photographers also got some love with this new update. But here’s the coolest update yet. DJI has also increased the aperture to f/1.7 with an FOV of 82.1° even though the equivalent focal length remains at 24mm. This all depends on the battery option and SD card you choose. While the tiniest drone in DJI’s lineup might seem like a slouch, it’s anything but.

DJI Mini 3 Pro Goes Massive on Features (Man of Many)

The DJI Mini 3 Pro is packed with features such as 4K/60fps video, ActiveTrack, tri-directional obstacle sensing, and 90° gimbal rotation.

Other notable smart features include MasterShots which keeps the subject in the centre of the frame while executing different maneuvers in sequence to generate a short cinematic video. The camera system has been redesigned from the ground up with the professional in mind. What we can’t get our head around is how much flight time the brand has managed to eke out of such a small package. Obstacle safety sensors are built into the front, rear, and bottom of the drone with a wide field of view to help prevent any accidents. Since its inception in 2019, the DJI Mini has been the go-to for content creators on the move, and today, the bar has clearly been raised. We’ve been going a little drone crazy in the Man of Many offices as of late with the announcement of the DJI Mini 3 Pro. This awesome little guy is packed with features you typically find in drones twice its size (and price) such as 4K/60fps video, ActiveTrack, tri-directional obstacle sensing, and 90° gimbal rotation to shoot high-quality vertical imaging for social media (Instagram Stories). All these features are packed inside a drone that can fly continuously for over 30-minutes and weighs just 249 grams.
