Mike Hagerty, who the building super Mr. Treeger on 'Friends' and appeared in 'Somebody Somewhere' and 'Seinfeld,' has died at 67.

A longtime character actor, Hagerty entered the zeitgeist when he was cast as Mr. Treeger on Friends in 1995 and recurred in the role until 2001. Treeger is the last character mentioned on the series, when Monica told Chandler (Matthew Perry) in the 2004 final scene, “I almost forgot – I promised Treeger that we’d leave our key.” When Michael Richards’ Kramer and Barney Martin’s Morty Seinfeld tried to sell him some old beltless raincoats (“The Executive” model) to Rudy, he declined, citing the buggy cabana clothes (which he set ablaze). Mike Hagerty, best known for his roles on Somebody Somewhere, as the building super Mr. Treeger on Friends and as the surly owner of a used-clothing store on Seinfeld, has died. Mike was a joy to work with and brought warmth and kindness to all who knew him. HBO said statement: “We are very saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Mike Hagerty. A member of the HBO family for many years, his most recent role as Bridget Everett’s father in Somebody Somewhere showed his special talent for bringing heart to a performance.

Mike Hagerty, the prolific character actor who recently starred in HBO's critically acclaimed dramedy “Somebody Somewhere,” died Thursday in Los Angeles.

He portrayed Ed Miller, a Kansas farmer and the soft-spoken father of main character Sam (portrayed by Everett). Aside from Everett, Hagerty’s main scene partner was Jane Drake Brody, who portrayed his onscreen wife Mary Jo, whose struggles with alcoholism was another important plot for the show’s first season. An important Season 1 plot line was Ed’s attempts to keep the family together following the death of Sam’s sister, while struggling with his own grief. Although best known for his television roles, Hagerty also had several film roles, particularly in comedies. Hagerty portrayed Frank MacNamara, a bar friend of Carlin’s character George O’Grady, on the show’s two seasons. Dramas he was featured in include “Crime Story,” “Angel,” “ER” and “Deadwood.” In addition to his role as Mr. Treeger in “Friends,” he also had recurring roles in shows such as “The Building,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “The Home Court.”
