'Clark' Ending, Explained: What Led To The Inception Of Stockholm ... (Digital Mafia Talkies)

Netflix Swedish series based on Clark Olofsson, takes us through the life of the fabled, most wanted, and most desired bank robber of all time.

You expect that at that moment, the man would stop being a narcissist for once and enter into a mode of self-introspection where he would think about his life and his actions. The people who knew him were utterly disappointed in him, even Tommy, who had chased him his whole life, in a hope that one day he would see some change in Clark Olofsson. They had given up just like Sussi Korsner, who had decided that she wouldn’t publish the book that she had been writing about Clark. Time and again, life had given Clark Olofsson the opportunity to mend his ways and follow the right path. He served his full sentence and also met Sussi Korsner in the prison, who was writing a book on him and frequently interviewed the fabled robber to understand him better. He went to the prison and just when his sentence was about to get over he stabbed a man, while out on a day’s release and was sentenced to two years more. Clark asked Madou in 1969 to marry him when he was in prison, and got a day’s release for the same. He had traveled the world, had the time of his life, got whatever he wanted, and he was even considered a national hero by many, but those instances still haunted him, and the flashes kept coming back each night. He brainwashed her by telling her that he wanted to be a part of a real revolution, which theater could only aspire to bring, but according to him, it was delusional to think that something of that sort could happen. He was caught once again by Tommy and brought to Tidaholm Maximum Security Prison. He met Maria in prison, who had come to perform a play for the prisoners. At the same time, he played with the police, too, telling them that Olsson was a dangerous criminal and that the hostages would be in grave peril if his demands were not met. He didn’t care about the system or politics and was least interested in what was happening in the country. There was a thing about Clark Olofsson. He was extremely individualistic in his approach. Being around ladies, being the center of attraction, and earning money was never a problem for young Clark Olofsson. From an early age, he got into a tussle with the legal system.

The Pennywise actor talks his new role in Clark, working with director Jonas Åkerlund and our obsession with sensationalised crime stories.

But this is a six-part season, and while Skarsgård confirms he was at one point involved in the development of a different project, one revolving more around the robbery, this show is far more interested in the man behind it, and what makes someone like that tick. He lives life as if it's a video game, where the stakes are just 'how do I get the most fun out of anything?'" "For me it was like, 'OK, I love the heightened reality, but I also need to ground the character in something that's very real'," Skarsgård confirms. "This was in the early '60s when, like, nobody was on camera. Of course, the show is told from his perspective, so just how charming Olofsson actually was is left somewhat in doubt. It takes a particular type of character to sustain that type of lifestyle." "Of course the real Clark would have these big pauses of like four years of isolation in a cell. This show is never going to be boring, and it's never going to be lacking, right? You know this is probably not exactly how the robbery took place but maybe it is sort of what it was like for him." You're in the head of this crazy person and you probably shouldn't believe everything that he's telling you as the audience. Like the Stockholm Syndrome is obviously something that everybody knows what it is, and of course he was involved in coining that! Next, you need a director who's up to the challenge, so it's a good thing Jonas Åkerlund was on board.

Bill Skarsgård plays criminal Clark Olofsson in new Netflix true crime drama. What happened to the real Clark, plus how he inspired 'Stockholm Syndrome' ...

Despite renouncing his Swedish citizenship in the 1990s, he was granted it back in 2017. "I chose a Catholic wife who had very nice attitudes about both life and children," he told Swedish newsite Expressen. "I know they [children] are in good hands. He later joked about his life as a career criminal and in a 2000 interview with Aftonbladet said: "I was such a bad thief that I had to start robbing banks instead. Despite their high-pressure environment and the mounting fear Olsson would do something to them, the rapport they'd managed to build with their hostages verged on the bizarre. I escaped as soon as I could and always had five or six years left to sit inside." On day five of the heist, police used tear gas on the vault, and eventually both men released the prisoners and handed themselves in. He evaded capture for two weeks, before he was tracked down to a countryside location with his then-girlfriend. His first introduction into the penal system was a young offenders' institution in 1963 aged 16, but he broke out with two other inmates. During their time detained with the bank robbers, the four hostages commented that Clark would often sing Roberta Flack's 'Killing Me Softly' as he stood guard over them. Born in Trollhättan, Sweden, in February 1947, Clark was born to a troubled family, with two younger sisters. But he is most known for the 1973 Norrmalmstorg robbery. In February 1969, Clark escaped from prison yet again.

As we see more of Clark’s exploits through the decades, and Lindström’s pursuit, we’ll see if Clark becomes more of a hero or not. We’re satisfied so far that Clark is being shown for the mostly bad guy he was, albeit one that can seem to charm his way into the heart of someone like Madou. Most of the time, Clark’s exploits are treated as the lark they are. Now he’s a cop killer, and even though he’s on the run, he takes the time to stop and apologize to Madu, whom he claims is the first love of his life, for lying. We go from his birth in 1947, where we pan into his mother-in-labor’s uterus to see Clark as a fetus. The Gist: The limited series Clark is based on the “truths and lies” from the real life Olofsson’s biography.
