WNBA: Can Liz Cambage lead the Los Angeles Sparks back to glory? (Swish Appeal)

After missing the playoffs last year for the first time since 2011, the Sparks are looking to return to glory with the inclusion of superstar Liz Cambage.

Six games under .500 is not a record that will be accepted in Los Angeles, and the 6-foot-8 center will have every opportunity to right the ship. Chennedy Carter had two productive seasons in Atlanta and is now joining the Sparks. She was a walking bucket for the Dream and pairing her with N. Ogwumike and Cambage sounds exciting on paper. Maximizing that back half of the roster will be where Derek Fisher will be tested. He made the decisions and built this roster to his liking. After a sub .500 2021 and missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade, the Sparks are looking forward to a fresh start in 2022. We are still in training camp, but with players like Liz Cambage, Nneka and Chiney Ogumike, and veteran leadership from Kristi Tolliver, the Sparks have a good core that should be making the playoffs.

In three straight at bats the Ragin’ Cajuns spun the Chanticleers out of control, and out of the lead. Makiya Thomas (double) and Riley Zana (single) brought in runs during a seventh-inning rally, but Kandra Lamb induced a pair of fly outs to secure Louisiana’s win. Landry (16-3, 2.28 ERA, 133 K) bounced back from Coastal’s early uprising by finishing with four consecutive scoreless innings pitched. Louisiana answered quickly, tallying four runs in the bottom half of the inning capped off by a three-run home run from Mayeux. After the first inning, she allowed no more than one base runner in a single inning until the sixth. Louisiana ran its home winning streak to 10 games on the final day of play at Lamson Park in spring 2022.

Sky are going for back-to-back titles in WNBA's 26th season (Chicago Sun-Times)

The Sky's core, 2021 WNBA Finals MVP Kahleah Copper, Courtney Vandersloot, Allie Quigley and Candace Parker, all are back.

Cambage joined a core in Los Angeles that includes 2016 league MVP Nneka Ogwumike, her sister Chiney Ogwumike and Kristi Toliver, along with young talents like Jordin Canada and Chennedy Carter. Griner’s detention has been extended to May 19, and commissioner Cathy Engelbert said ahead of the WNBA Draft that the league is doing all it can to bring her home. Coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve signed five-time All-Star Angel McCoughtry. The Lynx have a deep roster of talent heading into the 2022 season. To accomplish that, they will have to go through a league that will see even more parity in 2022. Their first meeting against the Sky is May 28 at Wintrust Arena. The Seattle Storm, along with re-signing Sue Bird at the veteran minimum for what’s expected to be her final season, re-signed Breanna Stewart and Jewell Loyd. The big three will be in pursuit of a record fifth WNBA title.
