Gael Monfils: 'Different Is Not Forbidden' | ATP Tour | Tennis (ATP Tour)

Learn more about the journey and mindset of French star Gael Monfils, who plays Novak Djokovic in the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open.

But whether it is Tuesday against Djokovic in Madrid or any opponent in the coming weeks and months, that does not mean he will not try. “I’m blessed and I’m happy. “The guy is better than me, that is it,” Monfils said of Djokovic on Monday. “Every match is an opportunity to win, I try to take some lessons. “When you see No. 99 in the world, pay big respect to this guy. I’d say, ‘Please, come with me on the court.’ I’m quite open,” Monfils said. It is important to remember that Monfils is not just a showman, but one of the best players of his generation. “The best of our sport, when we’re Top 100, to be ranked No. 100… “Gael said to me when he saw a young player come out of the [court] — it was Rafael Nadal — ‘You see Richard, everyone only talks about Richard Gasquet, but Rafael will be much stronger than Richard and he scares me because I don't see how to beat him,’” Warmoes recalled. Monfils will try his best and accept the result. “I have my fun, I like it. Since he was a junior, Monfils has been considered one of the most gifted players in tennis. Having reached a career-high No. 6 in the ATP Rankings, won more than 500 tour-level matches and earned more than $20 million in prize money, it is safe to say Monfils has accomplished his dreams.

First-Time Winner Spotlight: Sebastian Baez | ATP Tour | Tennis (ATP Tour)

Sebastian Baez won his first ATP Tour title on Sunday in Estoril and broke into the top 40 in the ATP Rankings following the milestone victory.

You have to be supported by your family, your team, your people. This trophy is a nice compensation for all the job and a great motivation to go for more. So I am very proud to have hired him and to have him in my life. After all the success on the ATP Challenger Tour last year, you reached your first ATP Tour final this year, and gradually progressed to your first trophy. I understand it that way because my coach believes it, and I have learned it from him. I am proud to have the best people by my side. I hope to have more time with him and, why not, finish my career with him. the main draw this year in Australia. Every time I try to be better, to go step by step. I hope this is the start of something nice. The rankings were frozen and breaking into the Top 100 was very hard. Now you are closing in on the top 40 as an ATP Tour titlist. A six-time champion on the ATP Challenger Tour in 2021, Baez made his tour-level breakthrough in his second final.

ATP Madrid Outright Tips: Long-shot Opelka should enjoy the quick ... (Betting.betfair)

With this week's ATP finals in Munich and Estoril concluding a little later, it's time to preview the week ahead in Madrid as the Madrid Masters commences.

Unfortunately, Opelka and Korda meet in the first round, which should be one of the matches of the round. Nadal is the tournament favourite at a current 3.7511/4, with Alcaraz second in the market at 4.84/1, and Djokovic slightly further back trading at 6.86/1. I say 'only' half in jest, because it's still the record here for an individual player, but by the same token, is far from the level of dominance which he's exhibited in other clay events in slower conditions where he's not a million miles from being unbeatable.

ATP Madrid Day 2 Predictions Including Jannik Sinner vs Tommy Paul (Last Word on Baseball)

Jannik Sinner kicks off his 2022 ATP Madrid Open campaign against Tommy Paul on Day 2 of main draw play. Who do you think will win?

Perhaps, especially as the first matches in the tournament can often get more tricky than they should. Meanwhile, Lorenzo Musetti had to start from the qualifying draw, coming just two points away from getting eliminated against Spanish sensation Alejandro Moro Canas. The Italian has a game that’s tailor-made for this surface but with all the variety the youngster possesses, he still finds it hard to formulate a cohesive gameplan. Norrie’s physical preparation, tenacity, and consistency are second to none though and he should be able to outplay the Korean in the longer rallies.

These are the ones who are always with me and I appreciate that so much. Honestly, I’m pretty lazy, so I like to watch a good movie and watch some Netflix.

Jack Sock Claims Savannah Challenger Title | ATP Tour | Tennis (ATP Tour)

Jack Sock wins his first professional tennis title of 2022, prevailing at the ATP Challenger Tour event in Savannah, Georgia.

For me, I honestly don't care if it's a Challenger, a Masters 1000 or a Slam, I feel like if I can get through the first round or two, my level always rises. He's got a good eye for my game, has seen me play for a long time and has a vision for how I can win matches. Everyone here is good at tennis and you have to get through a whole draw, which is never easy. It's not easy to keep your focus at this level, especially when you've accomplished as much as you have. At the age of 29, Sock is on the rise after years of fighting to rediscover his elite form. You're playing these to win them and advance to the next stage [on the ATP Tour]. It's a positive step in the right direction and I take it day-by-day and keep going. Sock continued his quest to return to the Top 100 of the ATP Rankings, blasting to the Savannah title on Sunday afternoon. I have a wife, my family, Robby [Ginepri] and my team are around me. A lot has changed since then for you, but tell me what this win means to you. Moreover, it was his first crown on clay since prevailing at the ATP Tour event in Houston in 2015. After rising to a career-high No. 8 in 2017, the man with the ferocious forehand and lightning-fast hands is on the road back. In the end, it was Kyrgios who prevailed in three tight sets, denying Sock his first Challenger clay-court crown.

Challenger Tour Weekly Recap: Sock Wins on Green Clay in ... (Last Word on Baseball)

Five ATP Challenger Tour events have just concluded across three different continents. Evan Furness and Jack Sock were among the winners.

Clarke wants to play in Zagreb after a week of rest, while Menendez-Maceiras is scheduled to appear at qualifying for a Challenger in Tunis in three weeks. Getting to Morelos straight after a quarterfinal at Aguascalientes, the 36-year-old was 5-7 3-5 down to Brayden Schnur in the opening round. Pushing Collarini behind the baseline was the key to winning this final as the beautiful topspin wasn’t going to be as dangerous from a position deep in the court. The 22-year-old is getting close to the top 150 of the ATP Rankings right now. Christian Harrison didn’t drop a single set on the way to the final and lost just nineteen games across four matches. Sock’s topspin forehand was by far the best stroke on the court and even though he slipped up on serve twice, he was so in control that he could easily afford it. That definitely paid off as the Brit has now reached all three of his Challenger finals on the dirt, losing to Franco Agamenone in Prague and Nuno Borges at Antalya last year. Franco Agamenone arrived in Rome on a four-match losing streak and with just two victories in his last even events. Furness clinched his maiden Challenger title 4-6 7-6 6-1, despite being two points away from losing in the second set tie-break. Agamenone will play in Mauthausen next week, while Moroni intends to compete in the Rome pre-qualification wildcard tournament. The disappointed Peniston began cramping early in the decider and understandably, his game went off the boil along with it. Ryan Peniston had barely played on clay during his college career, but trained at an academy at Nice between the ages of 13 and 18, giving him considerable experience on the surface.
