The Eagles enter the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft with two picks and a number of holes to fill.
It may become the new normal, but this is another deep receiver class with a handful of guys in the mix to go early in the first round. Consider this a dream scenario for both the Eagles and Wilson, who grew up as a diehard fan of the team. While offense is certainly represented with five different national pundits predicting the Eagles will take a wideout in the first round, there was a definite lean to the defensive side. That leaves Howie Roseman and Co. with more than a few options for how they want to utilize those picks, whether that’s by actually taking a player or by trading the picks to move up or down the draft board. They also both agree that the Eagles’ second pick in the first round could be Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie. We’ve looked at the specifics of which players the Eagles might draft with their two first-round picks. He controls five of the first 101 picks in the draft, which begins Thursday night and concludes Saturday. That includes first-round picks Nos. 15 and 18. Interestingly enough, our own Jeff McLane has the Eagles doing just that — trading up from 15 and back from 18. “I could see the Eagles going up to nine or 10 to go get Thibodeaux,” Jeremiah said Wednesday. “Stingley would be another one, I would keep an eye on those two guys as potential trade-up guys. And so you try to figure what would the Eagles need, who would they come up for? Earlier, James Palmer also mentioned that Roseman had been making calls and trying to move the Eagles up into the top 10. They have 10 picks total, including five in the first three rounds.

Who had the best fit? But he was not the only one flashing new jewelry. Some outfits, though, have been more sentimental over the years.
The night is all about football, but it is a little bit about fashion too.
I would describe his suit as "classy with flair." Another Georgia Football alum, Nakobe Dean, also showed off his championship ring on the red carpet. I appreciate a bold suit choice and former Georgia Bulldog Jordan Davis wore his old colors on the NFL Draft carpet. Why have one chain with your nickname on it, when you can have two? To make a good first impression, players often spend a lot of time and effort deciding what outfit to wear. It is a night where fans still have hope for their teams, players stand on the podium as their dreams come true and experts are breaking down each selection and how well it will help the team.

Dotson is a catch-and-run specialist with outstanding speed, quickness and burst. As a middle-of-the-field defender with size, range and versatility, the Notre Dame standout is the kind of playmaking safety defensive coordinators build game plans around. Wilson is a polished playmaker with A-plus route-running ability and ball skills. London is a former hooper with outstanding size, length and leaping ability. Ekwonu is an explosive run-blocker with a nasty temperament that sets the tone for the front line. Hutchinson is a blue-chip prospect with A-plus tools and technical skills.
The 2022 NFL draft is finally on the clock, and USA TODAY Sports will provide instant insight into all 32 of Thursday night's selections.
Of note, it hardly mirrors your typical mock draft, with Walker – who could be Jacksonville's selection at No. 1 – listed 18th, and Pitt QB Kenny Pickett not making the top 50 cut at all (only two QBs did). Here is our friendly advice for all 32 NFL teams, pertinent both to the draft and beyond, as they continue shaping their rosters ahead of the 2022 season. Quite the indicator of how trades have pervaded the roster-building process when it seemed it wasn't that long ago that teams were highly reluctant top part with prime draft capital, especially first-rounders. USA TODAY Sports' Nate Davis and Mike Middlehurst-Schwartz both released their final mock drafts this week ... Davis good-naturedly complaining about the quality of Middlehurst-Schwartz's Thursday mock as compared to his Wednesday version. USA TODAY Sports' Josh Peter did a deep dive on the suit game that occurs before the draft. But you never know in the NFL. The Jets and Lions could be receiver-needy teams to monitor. But Lisfranc surgery limited him to three games in 2021 – a year after he was slowed by ankle issues. 19. Saints (from Eagles) – 18. Eagles (from Saints) – Hutchinson, who has a non-stop motor, was also a two-time team captain in Ann Arbor – and should help establish the kind of culture coach Dan Campbell and the Lions are seeking. He’s the No. 1 overall player on many draft boards even if he might not have the ceiling of Walker. But Hutchinson is closer to a finished product, the All-American and Heisman Trophy finalist setting a Wolverines single-season record with 14 sacks in 2021 while also posting 51 hurries. However the Sin City backdrop should make the visuals uniquely spectacular this year.

In the run game, he doesn't roll his hips at the point of attack, but stays on his feet and flashes upper torque to turn and dump defenders. He also has the ability to grab and control the wrist of his opponent. He likes to cradle-catch balls on his frame, which leads to some drops, but he flashes the ability to high point and finish. Against the run, his burst and angles to the ball are highly impressive, but he will go low and miss a few tackles. He has the ability to layer the ball accurately in the intermediate area of the field and he throws a beautiful, lofting deep ball. The dip/rip move is his bread and butter, but he needs to add to his arsenal. He gives up separation out of the break, but he has the ability to recover and locate the ball in the air. He has a quick release and he can really power the ball outside the numbers and down the field. He is fluid and fast in everything he does on the field. He has the fluidity to match up in man coverage underneath and he’s a dynamic blitzer. He has some pop out of his plant and he can find and play the ball. Against the pass, he has the athleticism to match up with RBs and TEs underneath.
Follow along for every trade involving Day 1 picks in the 2022 NFL draft. Which teams made moves for first-rounders?
The Dolphins traded this year's first-round pick to the Chiefs for receiver Tyreek Hill. The 49ers used the 2021 pick they received in the trade to draft quarterback Trey Lance. The Chiefs sent the No. 29 pick to the Patriots for the No. 21 pick, which they used to draft Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie. The Bears traded up from No. 20 to No. 11 in 2021, giving the Giants the No. 20 pick and a fifth-rounder in 2021 (No. 164) along with a first (No. 7) and fourth-round pick (No. 112) this year. The Lions traded the No. 32 pick to the Vikings, then drafted Alabama receiver Jameson Williams. The Eagles traded the No. 15 pick to the Texans for the No. 13 pick, then drafted Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis. The initial first-rounder ended up being the No. 23 pick in 2021. The pick was traded from the Saints to the Commanders on Thursday. The Eagles used the No. 13 pick to draft Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis. The Texans used the No. 15 pick on Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green. The Seahawks used the No. 9 pick on Mississippi State tackle Charles Cross. The first-round pick was originally traded to the Dolphins from the San Francisco 49ers last year as part of the Trey Lance trade. The Commanders used the No. 16 pick on Penn State receiver Jahan Dotson. The Lions originally acquired the No. 32 pick from the Los Angeles Rams in the Matthew Stafford trade last year. The Titans used the No. 18 pick on Arkansas receiver Treylon Burks.
A deep, talent-rich draft, the 2022 class is lacking the top-end talent (particularly at quarterback) that normally shapes the class. This is a line-deep group ...
I love the aggression and the pickup here, and he adds to the big haul from the Jets. The former ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Johnson will immediately bolster the pass rush. A long ballhawk with an amazing ability to locate the ball in the air, he will punish quarterbacks who make ill-advised throws in his area. Obviously they felt differently, and this isn’t a terrible pick considering the way the draft was going, but I personally don’t love it. Look, this was the long set pick and I guess they really like him? This draft has been a bit of a nightmare for the Chargers who miss out on basically every top receiver by waiting. Getting weapons for Carson Wentz isn’t a recipe for success in my opinion, and there were much, much better players on the board at positions of need for this team. Davis is a force in the middle who I absolutely saw as a potential Ravens target. Even following an injury in the National Championship game he’s going to be a great player in the NFL who will win now, and in the future. I like Chris Olave just fine — he’s a fluid, nice route runner with a lot of skill, but I am mystified why the Saints felt the need to move up. I honestly don’t think they expected Ekwonu to be on the board at No. 6, and end up getting the best offensive tackle in this draft without question. For a long time the LSU cornerback was seen as the top defensive back in this class, and the rise of Gardner overtook him. Personally, I’m extremely excited to see Walker in the NFL and witness whether his phenomenal athletic ability translates into a perennial All Pro career, but this was a huge risk.

Note: Throughout this article, positions for each pick are listed below, but individual player names are not. Fourth round: wide receiver (1), running back (1), cornerback (1), defensive end (2), safety (1), guard (1) Of course, with each franchise, there are multiple people with input into a draft pick and Pederson and Baalke were likely not the only person in their respective rooms making the pick in any given year. But with that in mind, let’s examine the data and see if there are any particular positions the decision-makers have favored not just in the first round, but through all seven rounds of past drafts. By the end of Thursday night, that question will finally be answered. The 2022 NFL Draft begins tonight, Thursday April 28 at 8 p.m., and runs through Saturday, April 30.

He is their ideal type of interior blocking prospect with his versatility tied to balanced strength and agility and fills a considerable need with Ted Karras and Shaq Mason no longer on the roster. Wyatt slipped a little with the Cardinals not picking, but Green Bay had a need to upgrade around Kenny Clark in its three-man front. The Cowboys took a late-rising player vs. Elam was worthy of a late first-rounder or early second-rounder, so this isn’t really too much of a reach. going for a wide receiver or pass rusher, but they liked McDuffie as their replacement for Chavarius Ward to make this move. Penning has a mean and nasty streak along with his athletic upside in a sturdy frame, making him the ideal bookend for Ryan Ramczyk in front of Winston. With the Olave pick earlier, the Saints are committed to better downfield pocket passing. Johnson does a little bit of everything well with his all-around skill set, featuring his natural agility and power. The Commanders took a circuitous route to getting their deep threat complement to Terry McLaurin, knowing Carson Wentz operates best when having that type of player outside. Davis had a late boost up the board as he got more attention for his sometimes explosive interior pass rush. Look for Moore to slide into the slot while Davis acts like more of a big possession body and Wilson becomes the primary field-stretcher for his second-year QB. The Falcons jumping on London made this a no-brainer. Gardner is the best corner in the draft and the Jets didn’t want to take a chance on him still being there at No. 10, given the crosstown Giants had heavy interest behind them. It’s a true boom-or-bust selection for Nick Caserio.
Drop-offs at certain positions could lead to trades, the speedy Alabama receiver is connected to a bunch of teams and more last-minute nuggets and rumors.
• I thought this line from an AFC exec sort of summed up how the league feels about the group going into tonight: “There just aren’t a lot of needle-movers. It’s true that many of his splash plays are in chase-down situations and that he was more consistent as a pass rusher from the inside than the outside. Walker, I’ve spent a lot of time talking to coaches and scouts the last couple of days about the difference between the two. And it feels like that’s what this is about for a lot of people—can Hutchinson be special? Which is probably why Kayvon Thibodeaux—who’s turned some teams off through the process—really hasn’t been part of the conversation, particularly in a year when ownership has been prioritizing culture and alignment with his football folks. And he could be the guy some team winds up making a move up for. It’s also true, per NFL folks, that he needs to develop moves as a pass rusher if he’s going to be a dominant edge guy. But, to be sure, there’s definitely seen to be a drop-off after the first three guys at tackle, too. And this line from a coach who knows him really well stuck with me in that regard: “Watch him at 30 yards, and how his second gear kicks in.” So I did. I could see Kansas City making a jump, too, but maybe for a corner—with a receiver like Georgia’s George Pickens being in play with the first-rounder they don’t wind up moving. If you want one of them, it’d seem getting in front of the Jets at No. 10 might be the play—presuming Walker and Hutchinson are, in some order, Nos. 1 and 2. So here’s a look at where the pressure points for those spots might be …
After Travon Walker and Aidan Hutchinson were the first off the board, several trades shook up Round 1. Who won the first day in Las Vegas?
Cine delivers some big hits in run support and is a reliable tackler in space with sideline-to-sideline range. He has a quick first step, violent and active hands and a nonstop motor with the versatility to line up inside or outside. He showed off his elite quickness and athleticism by running a 4.77 40-yard dash at 304 pounds at the combine. Johnson led the ACC in both tackles for loss (17.5) and sacks (11.5) in 2021 as the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Johnson continued to improve his stock throughout the pre-draft process, and he uses his blend of strength, length (34” arms) and burst to make plays against the run and pass. Kaiir has outstanding straight-line speed (4.39 40-yard dash), and he’s at his best in press where he can use his size and physicality at the line of scrimmage. Due to his physicality, run-after-catch prowess and how the Razorbacks varied his alignments, it’s easy to see how the Titans could use Burks similarly to how the 49ers use Deebo Samuel. Burks finished 2021 with 66 receptions for 1,104 yards, 14 carries for 112 yards and a total of 12 touchdowns. The Commanders had only one receiver (Terry McLaurin) with 400-plus yards last season and will benefit from adding a talented receiver like Dotson. Creating separation with his nuanced route-running and quickness, Dotson has outstanding hands and is elusive in the open field even though he won’t break a lot of tackles. Improved hand usage will help cut down on holding penalties, but the former five-star recruit has a powerful lower half, outstanding length and is at his best in the run game. The Ravens get a steal with my second-ranked player overall. Quick and elusive, Wilson ran a faster-than-expected 40-yard dash (4.38) in Indianapolis. He’s a complete receiver that finished 2021 with 70 catches for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s a top-three prospect, so the Giants get some good value here. The Jets needed an upgrade at corner, and he has the chance to become one of the best.

New York addressed their offensive line two picks later drafting Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal with seventh pick. New Orleans executed the first trade of the NFL draft trading with the Washington Commanders up to the 11th pick. Walker is the first defensive end to be taken with the first pick since Cleveland drafted Myles Garrett in 2017. After months of speculation, the Jaguars selected Georgia defensive end Travon Walker with the first pick in this year's NFL Draft. The Giants selected Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux with the pick. The first blockbuster trade of the draft featured the Titans. The first five picks of the draft were all defensive. After sitting and waiting patiently, the Steelers selected Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett with the 20th pick making him the first quarterback selected in the draft. For the second time in the first round, the Titans were involved with a trade, Tennessee opted to move back instead of moving up this time trading the 26th pick to the Jets. New York received the 26th and 101st pick while the Titans received picks 35, 69 and 163. Green Bay selected Georgia linebacker Quay Walker with 22nd pick making them the first team to select a pair of college teammates in the first round. The first round of the 2022 NFL Draft was held Thursday night in Las Vegas, Nevada.
If a prospect is considered a great pick the day of the draft, but doesn't work out in the long run, that's a completely different evaluation of his new team's ...
Analysis: San Francisco gave up its 2022 first-round pick to Miami last year when moving up for quarterback Trey Lance. With Lance making just two starts as a rookie, I'm giving the 49ers an average grade for now. Roseman turned Philly's second first-round pick ( No. 18) into former Titans receiver A.J. Brown, whom they immediately gave a four-year extension worth $100 million with $57 million guaranteed. New York used the final pick from the Jamal Adams trade to select Wilson at No. 10. Analysis: The Saints gave up No. 16 overall, a third- and fourth-round pick to grab Washington's 11th spot to select Olave. The Saints badly needed speed on the outside and the run on receivers was real, so GM Mickey Loomis pulled off another first-round trade to get his guy. Analysis: The Rams did not have a first-round pick this year because they sent it to the Lions for quarterback Matthew Stafford last offseason. Getting a haul of draft picks from the Dolphins in return for Hill gives Reid another chance to prove that belief is correct. Lloyd's lack of supreme athleticism cost him draft position, but he displayed blossoming pass-rush ability when given the chance at Utah, as well as the willingness to plug gaps against the run and cover tight ends. Analysis: The Colts gave up their first-round pick in the trade with Philadelphia for Carson Wentz last year. It's too early to make a complete evaluation of the Matthew Stafford trade, which netted the Lions an extra first-round pick this year. Immediate draft grades provide a foundation for future evaluations. These 2022 NFL Draft quick-snap grades are an indication of whether I think a prospect's selection is of appropriate value given his college film and athleticism scores. Waiting three years to evaluate draft classes, without accounting for how the decision was viewed at the time, usually leads to revisionist history.
Ranking the top 230 prospects who could still hear their names called in rounds two through seven, including Nakobe Dean, Malik Willis and David Ojabo.
Watson has an elite combination of size and speed with a wide catch radius, and is elusive for a big receiver. Hall finished with his most productive season (13 TFLs and six sacks) in 2021. His intelligence and instincts allow him to play fast and impact the game in so many different ways. He had a 95/1,292/10 line in ’21 and PFF credited Moore with 26 broken tackles after the catch, which led FBS wide receivers last season. Although he has shouldered a heavy workload (800 career touches), Hall was highly productive and has the frame and versatile skill set to be a featured back. For teams that miss out on Jordan Davis or prefer to wait (a little longer) on a run-stuffing nose tackle, there won’t be much of a drop off with Jones. While he isn’t as effective against the run, his length (34 ⅛" arms), bend and active hands should allow him to become a productive pass rusher early in his career. Pickens’s best season came as a highly-touted true freshman when he hauled in 49 receptions for 727 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019. The scheme-diverse corner is a smooth and fluid mover with excellent ball skills. Similar to Elam, Hall has an NFL pedigree as he follows in the footsteps of his stepfather (Jeff Smith) and cousin (Roger Craig). Ojabo is relatively new to football, but he finished last season with 11 sacks—second in the Big Ten behind Hutchinson—and his pass-rush moves are more developed than one would expect given his limited experience. He’s joined by Iowa State running back Breece Hall, Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean and other collegiate stars who didn’t hear their names called on Thursday night in Las Vegas.

Projecting Friday night's 73 picks, including names like Malik Willis, George Pickens, Desmond Ridder and Kenneth Walker III.
He has sideline-to-sideline range and ran the second-fastest 40-yard dash (4.44) among linebackers at the combine. Lining up all over the formation, the sure-handed McBride was the focal point of Colorado State’s offense and posted rare stats for a collegiate tight end (90/1,121/1) in 2021. While he isn’t as effective against the run, his length (34 ⅛" arms), bend and active hands should allow him to become a productive pass rusher early in his career. Brisker has the versatility to succeed in a variety of roles and alignments. Although he has shouldered a heavy workload (800 career touches), Hall was highly productive in college and has the frame and versatile skill set to be a featured back. Watson has an elite combination of size and speed, with a wide catch radius and is elusive for a big receiver. Improved decision making and ball placement helped Corral cut down on interceptions (five) in 2021 compared to the previous season (14), and Pete Carroll should appreciate Corral’s competitive play style. A four-year starter with 44 career wins, Ridder has the ability to process what he sees quickly and to make throws to all three levels of the field. While he missed most of the past season with a torn ACL, the lanky receiver has natural hands and excellent body control. At Georgia, he was the leader of the best defense in the country. He finished with his most productive season (13 TFLs and six sacks) in 2021. He generates plenty of zip on his throws, and his elite speed and dynamism as a runner stresses opposing defenses.

If the Lions are willing to risk it, they can get a very good player in Clark, but they would have to wait until 2023 to see him play. Both Brisker and Pitre can play in Detroit’s split-zone scheme, with Pitre also having some flexibility to play in the slot and in blitz packages. I’d expect the Lions would have to trade up to get Willis, but he’s fallen this far already, so maybe he makes it to 46... Nakobe Dean was expected to be a fringe first-round pick, so if he’s still there at 46th overall then that would be a steal. We knew it was going to be an interesting Day 1, but having the Detroit Lions trade up to 12th overall to take a wide receiver was certainly a shocking development in the football world. Let’s take a look at some of the top players remaining at their biggest positions of need.

1 1 1 Linderbaum became Iowa’s first recipient of the Rimington Trophy. With the 10th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected The Ohio State University wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Wilson, Ohio State’s first, first-round receiver in 15 years, caught 143 passes for 2,213 yards and 23 touchdowns in just three seasons.

2022 NFL Draft Round 1 Recap, Winners & Losers: Jets/Giants ace multiple picks, Eagles trade for A.J. Brown, Kenny Pickett only QB off the board to the Steelers ...
You'd have to go back to the 1991 NFL Draft to find a similar start to the first round to the one we just witnessed. For instance, in a recent two-round mock draft, CBS Sports NFL Draft expert Ryan Wilson had Strange coming off the board in the second round at No. 51 overall. It wasn't even just the draft community that was surprised by the pick. As we were still gaining all the information about the Hollywood Brown trade, a mammoth blockbuster deal came down that saw the Titans trade star receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles for the No. 18 overall pick and a third-rounder. Back in the 1997 NFL Draft, Jim Druckenmiller was taken No. 26 overall by the San Francisco 49ers. If there was going to be a blockbuster trade involving a receiver, many pointed to it centering around the 49ers receiver as there had been rumors of discontent and a possible trade request for weeks. While his "slide" only lasted until the No. 12 overall pick, it was a surprising team that ultimately plucked him off the board. Throughout the pre-draft process, the talking point on Alabama receiver Jameson Williams was that -- when healthy -- he is the top player at his position in this class. Instead, Marquise Brown was the first domino to fall as the Ravens elected to trade him -- and a third-round pick -- to the Arizona Cardinals for the No. 23 overall selection. Not only did we get the typical drama of a draft, but we also had blockbuster trades thrown our way along with trends that we haven't seen in decades. Entering the draft, the NFL was waiting for the Deebo Samuel shoe to drop at some point. Naturally, the madness from free agency carried over into the opening round of the draft where there were a number of jaw-dropping moments.

Will the Jaguars' gamble of taking Travon Walker pay off?
According to Valk, Long was on the road “minutes later … after stopping at a store to buy a jacket and scarf.” Long went all the way from Los Angeles to the Yukon-Alaska border, and only one of his photos made it into the magazine: a black-and-white shot of the climbing party from a distance. The only players from the ’97 draft who went on to attempt more than 200 passes were Plummer, Koy Detmer and Danny Weurfel. The strange thing about the photo is that it was shot by two of SI’s favorite outside photographers of the late 1960s. ‘It’s Sheedy and Long.’ In Los Angeles the girl comes on and says, ‘Sheedy and Long. You want Mr. Sheedy or Mr....’ ‘Well, which one is in?’ says Bloodgood. ‘I'll put him on,’ she says. (Caveat: before 2022, when five defenders were taken to start the draft.) Conor Orr wrote more about the draft than any person should, so I’ll just link to his author page instead of one individual post. This year’s QB class was widely regarded as a weak one, so it wasn’t a surprise that we had to wait until the back half of the round for one to be taken. Still, it was a bit of a surprise that only one (Pitt’s Kenny Pickett) was chosen. While Hutchinson’s and Thibodeaux’s college production made them safe choices at the top of the draft, Jacksonville is betting on Walker to take a leap once he gets to the NFL. He’s a stout run defender but had only 9.5 sacks in three college seasons. Kevin Hanson gave Detroit an A+ for the Hutchinson pick, not just because of his talent but because he fills a need for a team that struggled to pressure opposing quarterbacks last year. That’s why Hanson gave Jacksonville a B- for the pick. Georgia’s Travon Walker went first to the Jaguars, who had been rumored to be targeting him for the past week or so, allowing the Lions to take a hometown product many considered to be the best player available, Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson. After that, the moves were more unpredictable.
The first round of the 2022 NFL Draft was a record-breaking evening of chaos, beginning with the culmination of Travon Walker's surprising ascent to No.
Oh, what a first night at the 2022 NFL Draft it was, indeed. Each of them members of Georgia's national championship team, they bookended a first round in which five Bulldogs defenders were taken, which is the most for a school in the common draft era. Pickett ended up being the only quarterback to hear his name called, marking the first occasion in which only one QB was picked in the opening round since 2013. It was the latest a quarterback has gone in the draft since the 49ers picked Jim Druckenmiller 26th overall back in 1997. Entering Thursday evening in Las Vegas, the draft was poised to be one of the most unpredictable in memory. Six wide receivers were selected in the top 20 -- beginning with USC's Drake London to the Falcons at No. 8 and concluding with Arkansas' Treylon Burks at No. 18 to the Titans -- for a common draft era (since 1967) record, per NFL Research.

The first day of the 2022 NFL Draft has come to a close with some usual surprises in terms of reaches, trades and players who slipped.
He is a player who has the leadership and mental intangibles that teams covet from the quarterback and despite the lack of a top ten ceiling, Ridder in the middle of the second would be a great pick for the Seahawks. He is an unbelievably raw talent, although he has the ceiling of a player who can contend for a Defensive Player of the Year award if he can reach his ceiling. No team traded up into the first to draft him (giving them the fifth-year option), which is rather surprising and can be viewed as a message that the league might not be as high on him as many thought.
The lack of consensus top players, paired with salary cap concerns with wide receivers turned the night into a trade-filled free-for-all with teams dancing ...
He’s going to be a great player for a long time in the secondary. Personally, I would have taken Ikem Ekwonu at No. 5 and Kayvon Thibodeaux at No. 7, but this is a minor quibble. The Steelers decided to take Kenny Pickett over him, which is a mistake — but it’s their mistake. I know there’s a lot of angst in trading away Hollywood Brown, but my God did the Ravens pull off a first round heist. I was incredibly critical of the Jets’ decision to take Zach Wilson a year ago, but this year the team absolutely killed the first round. Instead, the Vikings GIFTED the Lions the No. 12 overall pick in one of the worst, most lopsided first round trades I have ever seen. Sure, the Packers had no control over the wide receiver run, or teams jumping up for the talent at the position, I get that, but the Cardinals were able to get Marquise Brown for the No. 23 pick. Wilson had long been linked to New York, and he’s the ideal do-everything receiver the team (and more importantly Zach Wilson) needs. To this end he’s going to be a nightmare for opposing wide receivers, and an effective player to mitigate Josh Allen’s legs. It all starts with Sauce Gardner, who I think is the best cornerback in this class. When the dust settled we had some very clear winners from the first round of the draft, who grabbed incredible talent at their draft spot, or danced around to board to maximize value and still land great players. This was never going to be a normal NFL Draft, but I don’t think anyone was prepared for what unfolded on Thursday night.
Jacksonville Jaguars have the first pick as the NFL gears up for the 2022–2023 season.
73. Indianapolis Colts (from Washington Commanders) 69. Tennessee Titans (from New York Jets) 47. Washington Commanders (from Indianapolis Colts) 42. Indianapolis Colts (from Washington Commanders) 35. Tennessee Titans (from New York Jets) Dish Network's Sling lower-tiered Orange plan will run you $35 per month. Yep. There are a number of options, too. And the Houston Texans grabbed cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. from LSU. McBride can block, he can catch and he's a card-carrying tough guy. Needing to find a future starter at tackle, Green Bay takes a shot on Petit-Frere, who has experience on both the right and left side. After using first-round picks on cornerback Trent McDuffie and edge rusher George Karlaftis to address the defense, Kansas City takes a swing on the talented Georgia wideout to help restock the passing game. The addition of a quality running back makes sense on the surface -- and it makes even more sense considering the potential suspension coming for Alvin Kamara. The Seahawks might not have planned on drafting a QB this year, but is it even possible to pass on Willis at this spot? With Round 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft in the books, here's a look at how Rounds 2 and 3 could play out in Las Vegas on Friday, beginning at 7 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
The first round of the NFL draft continued Georgia football's hot streak, which includes ending a 40-season title drought and former quarterback Matthew ...
The selections marked the first time one team drafted two players from the same school in the first round of a draft during the common draft era. That number is one short of the record for total first-round picks from one team shared by Miami in 2004 and Alabama in 2021. The Bengals were led by another former first overall pick in quarterback Joe Burrow. In the following month, the 2009 draft's first overall pick, Matthew Stafford, became the first Georgia quarterback to win a Super Bowl as a starter. Philly hadn't drafted a DT in the first round since Fletcher Cox in 2012. Just months after the Atlanta Braves won the World Series, the Bulldogs kicked off 2022 by winning the College Football Playoff National Championship in January, ending a 40-season title drought.
Is it fair to grade draft picks as they happen, as opposed to two or three years down the road, when we can really what prospects can do with their NFL ...
The Bengals did a lot in free agency to upgrade their offensive line (a veritable and obvious necessity), and they may do more in this particular mock. Wyatt is an amazing interior defensive lineman who brings Kenny Clark to mind, and when dealing with the Packers’ interior defensive line over the last few seasons, it’s been all about doubling Clark and singling everybody else. Since Johnson was my top edge-rusher in this class, and the Jets managed to get him by trading up to 26 with the Titans… well, this is ridiculous. With that 12th overall pick, Detroit gets the best receiver in this class (in my opinion), and a player who, when he recovers from injury, should have a Tyreek Hill-like impact on a Lions offense in desperate need of downfield speed and separation. This isn’t the flashiest pick, and there are those who will criticize the team for moving down when they could have had Jameson Williams with the 11th pick. Add Wilson to Corey Davis and Elijah Moore, and the Jets’ offense just got a lot more interesting. And he’s a better run-blocker than you may think, or Pete Carroll wouldn’t touch him with a 2000-mile pole. Well, my NFL comp for Ekonu was Taylor Moton, who will now be Moton’s bookend, if the Panthers choose to keep Ekwonu at tackle — he could also be a plus guard. Gardner played about 75% press in his snaps last season, and the Bearcats played more single-high than any NCAA defense except for LSU’s. There is no better fit for Robert Saleh’s defense in this draft class, regardless of position. The Texans obviously hope that Stingley can capitalize on his 2019 tape, which was first-overall pick stuff, and get past the last two seasons of injuries and relative ineffectiveness. I think that Florida State’s Jermaine Johnson II is the better edge defender, but it’s hard to argue against Walker’s potential. Add in who else might have still been on the boards, and you start to get a clearer picture of each pick.
Every year, some first-round prospects fall to the second round. Some thought Liberty quarterback Malik Willis or Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder would go ...
Edge rushers Boye Mafe and Arnold Ebiketie are still around. Georgia wide receiver George Pickens, who the 49ers may not value as highly since he doesn’t provide much after the catch, is one of the most talented receivers in the draft. Then, we saw three trades in a row, and chaos ensued for the remainder of the round.
The Kansas City Chiefs landed edge rusher George Karlaftis at No. 30 overall, proving to be one of the best picks of the day from a value standpoint.
The Lions had an abundance of draft capital, and evidently, teams aren’t rushing to the podium to invest in this year's group of quarterbacks. Williams has game-changing speed but is a far more savvy route-runner and technician for the position than players with that type of speed typically need to be. He is the best composite of pass protection and run blocking of the top tackles in this draft class and has experience in college playing right tackle, where he will slot opposite Andrew Thomas to help the Giants massively overhaul their offensive line. Philadelphia doesn’t have much money tied up in its receiving corps, so the team had the flexibility to pay Brown the contract he deserves — and it secured an elite receiver as a result. Brown has proven he can be an elite NFL receiver already and brings a skill set to the Eagles that their current group of receivers doesn’t have. While Linderbaum does have 31-inch arms and weighed 302 pounds, those measurables are very close to some of the best centers in the NFL, including Jason Kelce and Corey Linsley. Linderbaum’s athleticism is elite and his technique is top notch, helping him to back-to-back PFF season grades above 90.0, including an absurd 95.4 mark this past season. At one point in the pre-draft process, both players the Giants selected — Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal — were the betting favorites to go No. 1 overall. Outside of Baltimore, it seems that the league was overthinking Linderbaum, who is the best center prospect to enter the NFL since PFF began grading college football in 2014. He may never become an elite sack artist, but he will likely always create significant pressure, and that brings real value to a defense that doesn’t have nearly enough of it. Wilson was the No. 1 receiver in my rankings, and the Jets were able to draft him with the 10th overall selection — their second first-round pick. He posted a 90.0-plus PFF pass-rushing grade this past season, generating 54 pressures and an elite pass-rush win rate. Karlaftis was the forgotten man of this pass-rushing class.
Cynthia Frelund analyzes her draft model to identify the five best value picks in Round 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft -- including the Ravens' selection of Kyle ...
McDuffie was my third-ranked corner and my eighth-ranked player overall ahead of the draft. The Jets added my model’s No. 12 overall player near the bottom of the first round, which is really only a fraction of the value they added tonight. Johnson had the second-most QB pressures (46) in the ACC in 2021, per PFF. The Jets will be counting on the rookie to generate that type of production as a pro, after the team ranked 30th in QB pressure rate (22.7%) last year, per NGS. The Ravens got my ninth-ranked player at No. 25 overall, hitting the Vegas jackpot (I had to!) again in Round 1. Round 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft is in the books. Had Hamilton gone to a team like the Cowboys, who have many solid pieces but need a safety, he would have provided a projected win-share increase of 0.74. But on the Ravens? The win-share increase is 0.78, the highest possible mark for Hamilton on any team.
With six rounds and 230 picks remaining, there's plenty of time for teams to make or break their drafts. Still, it's always fun to overreact to the first-round ...
He’s had the opportunity to extend with the Ravens since last summer and he still hasn’t. This is one to watch throughout the offseason. Good news for Baltimore: The Ravens made some wise moves, trading away receiver Marquise Brown to get an extra first-round pick. During a draft interview with Pat McAfee, Rodgers admitted that he re-signed with the expectation that Adams would stick around. All the pieces are coming together around the QB spot, and they could go all-in for one next year. Well, the Eagles acquired Pro Bowl wideout A.J. Brown and immediately signed him to a four-year, $100 million extension. Now, he’ll have to settle for the second round. The Eagles’ second first-round pick (No. 18) was made by the Tennessee Titans. How, you ask? He will obviously be disappointed, but plenty of good quarterbacks have fallen outside of the first round. Is football back in the Big Apple? It certainly feels like it after the first round. Kenny Pickett was the only quarterback taken in Round 1, leaving Willis in the green room all night. With the No. 10 pick, the Jets picked Ohio State receiver Garrett Wilson. That gives second-year quarterback Zach Wilson a much-needed weapon. With six rounds and 230 picks remaining, there’s plenty of time for teams to make or break their drafts.
Malik Willis surprisingly went unpicked in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. So how much longer will the QB have to wait to hear his name called?
However, now that we're onto Day 2, the prospect of getting a potential star QB may be too good to pass up again. Behind Seattle, the Colts, Falcons, Lions, Commanders and Saints (No. 49) could be lurking as trade-up threats for Willis. Indy and Washington both acquired a veteran QB this offseason, but Matt Ryan is about to turn 37 and it wouldn't hurt to have an insurance policy for Carson Wentz, who is coming off a couple of rough seasons. The Giants just declined Daniel Jones' fifth-year option on Thursday and have a new regime in town. Yet he was one of four players in the green room without a new team by the end of Thursday, along with linebacker Nakobe Dean, cornerback Kyler Gordon and fellow quarterback Matt Corral. While we knew coming in this wasn't the strongest QB class, it was still a surprise to see Pickett as the only one taken through 32 picks. It was the first time that only one quarterback was selected in Round 1 since 2013, when the Buffalo Bills grabbed EJ Manuel 16th.
After selecting their franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence last year, the Jags are expected to either look for a defensive cornerstone in the front seven or ...

The Eagles traded for A.J. Brown on Thursday night but it came down to the wire. By Reuben Frank.
And the Eagles are in a unique position because they have a quarterback with a $1.6 million cap hit. “We made it like coaches on game day, and we knocked it off. “We had a plan, and so it wasn't like anything was on the fly,” Roseman said. “Obviously, they had to make a pick and get on the clock if we were going to make this trade.” "And obviously with all these players, contract's a big issue. When the opportunity came, it wasn't hard because we had made these decisions in calm times.” “We had a very detailed plan. “The trade was contingent on us getting an extension,” he said. “It really kind of came about quickly here.” We were just kind of trying to balance finishing that and if we didn't finish that, making sure we also got the right players. The contract piece of the trade really complicated matters. He was due to become a free agent after this season.

Cine is a good-looking player who will cover and hit you. He's a versatile player, which they love. This has a chance to be a special player. He's a playmaking linebacker who can do a lot of things. This is a really good pick. This kid is a mauler who will help them at right tackle right away. This is a heck of a pick. It fills a need at corner, and he's a good player, but they could have stayed in their spot. Give him a few games, and he will have the job. Olave is a speed receiver who will complement Michael Thomas, but this is a lot to give up to get him. He's fast and he will be a lot cheaper than Samuel. This is purely a projection.

Bonitto is an ideal sub-package rusher with the potential to tally 10-plus sacks as a situational defender. Andersen is an explosive athlete with the size, length and strength to be effective as a run or pass defender. Paschal is a rotational player with the potential to contribute as a situational rusher early in his career. The Cincinnati standout is a decathlete on the perimeter, with his combination of size, strength and athleticism creating problems for defenders. The dynamic pass rusher from Ole Miss is a spectacular sack artist with elite first-step quickness and burst. The Cincinnati product will compete for playing time as a role player early in his career. Mathis is a space eater with enough athleticism and mobility to develop into more than a pocket pusher at the next level. Booth is a rock-solid cover corner with a loaded toolbox for the position. Walker is a gritty runner with a combination of balance, body control and vision that makes him effective in any style of offense. He is an aggressive bump-and-run defender with the speed, quickness and athleticism to shadow premier receivers at the line of scrimmage. Mafe soared up the charts as a dynamic edge defender with outstanding rush skills. Although he needs to refine his technique, Gordon should compete for playing time as a starter early in his career.

Blur of a safety. This is good value for Carolina. Corral's ball-placement issues were a major concern. Parham is a Raiders type too. Up-and-down the line rusher with a nasty swim. A tick early because of his physical limitations. Such a fun player on film. In today's day and age, it's strange that he's a legitimate tweener. Finally! Dean is a rockstar on the field. Not a blocker. Surprisingly not a major YAC type despite those traits. Pocket presence needs some fine-tuning but not a major concern. But a smart decision-maker.

He's a renowned leader, winner and worker – plus a very good athlete to boot. Not fair to ask Bonitto to replace Von Miller. But the former Sooner is a plus athlete (6-3, 248, 4.5 speed) who was extremely productive, posting 16 sacks and 26½ TFLs since 2020. He caught 54 passes in four season for the Buckeyes, though a dozen of those produced TDs. 275? – before he's able to serve as a nice change of pace opposite Nick Bosa. Another gift for QB Kyler Murray, McBride will get to learn the ropes from vet Zach Ertz. He's a quick, shifty type who can operate out wide or from the slot and broke an FBS-high 26 tackles last season. A native of Nigeria who grew up in Scotland, Ojabo (6-4, 250 pounds) exploded for 11 sacks last season and will eventually bring needed juice to Baltimore's pass rush. A 6-3, 195-pounder with sub-4.5 speed offers plenty of intrigue and has even been mentioned favorably in the same breath as former Dawgs legend A.J. Green. Pickett-to-Pickens could be fun. A team captain for the Tide who can two-gap and shut down run lanes. In his lone seasons with the Spartans, the Wake Forest transfer rushed for 1,636 yards and 18 TDs. Watson won't replace Adams – who would? They make their inaugural pick of this draft by taking a solid corner, one who can play outside or in the slot and augments the league's third-ranked pass defense.
Iowa State running back Breece Hall, Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder and Liberty quarterback Malik Willis headlined Day 2 of the NFL draft.
Sanders is my 84th-ranked prospect, so he’s a solid value here. As my 181st-ranked player, the Bengals could have waited a round (or two) for Carter. The Panthers didn’t force a quarterback and their patience pays off. Like with Rachaad White a few picks earlier, Davis-Price is a back I’d prefer to take later than the third round. He’s a versatile playmaker on both defense and special teams, as he had five interceptions in 2021 and he finished his Cougars career with nine return touchdowns. While the Browns have Myles Garrett, they need more pass-rush help, and Wright gives them a boost. Woods ran a 4.61 40-yard dash with a 37½” vertical jump and 24 bench press reps at 225 pounds. A former (high school) safety himself, he’s at his best in coverage and had three interceptions, including two returned for scores, in ’21. Ingram is my 88th-ranked prospect and a prospect that I would have preferred to target in the third round. The Cowboys lost Randy Gregory this offseason, and Williams will give their pass rush a boost. He’s a scheme-diverse corner and is a smooth and fluid mover with excellent ball skills. He is a patient runner with outstanding vision and contact balance, and he’s a reliable receiver out of the backfield.

Cynthia Frelund analyzes her draft model to identify the six best value picks in Rounds 2 and 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft. Could Malik Willis and Nakobe Dean be ...
Bonitto ranked 51st on my big board ahead of the 2022 draft, but now that he's paired with Bradley Chubb and the Broncos defense, the forecasted production value is significantly higher than the league average I used to create my values. Dean allowed the fewest yards per target (3.5) among FBS linebackers last season, helping him to earn PFF's highest grade among linebackers (91.8). To land my 26th highest-rated player with the 77th overall pick -- at a position of need, no less -- is a huge value add. Willis scored 74 combined passing and rushing touchdowns over the past two seasons, the most in the FBS over that time. Moore had 262 yards after contact in 2021 (tied for ninth in the FBS, per PFF) and forced 26 missed tackles on receptions (tied for the most in the FBS). After the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, I used my model that predicts future player performance to identify the five best value picks from Thursday night.

He isn’t a dynamic player by any means, but he does enough of the little things well to come in produce early in Cleveland. Kerby Joseph is still very much learning the safety position, but he has uncoachable ball skills and length. It’s luxury pick time for the well-rounded Buccaneers, and they pick an excellent receiving back with Rachaad White. He turned in the third-best receiving grade among FBS backs in 2021. His deep speed and ball skills will be a good addition to the Cowboys' receiving room. He has excellent athleticism and a really good feel for finding space and getting open. He had a PFF pass-blocking grade of 91.0 in 2021, and even adjusting for true pass sets it falls only to 86.0. This is a classic pick with upside. But again, this doesn’t help Justin Fields, making this a good but not very good or elite pick despite the value. A player that’s lower on PFF’s Big Board than the consensus draft board, Petit-Frere has NFL-caliber traits, but he was lit up when he played elite competition such as Aidan Hutchinson the No. 2 overall pick. The Vikings have a need alongside Eric Kendricks, and Asamoah has the capacity to complement him very well. This is fantastic value for Brisker, and the Bears’ secondary looks promising after this pick along with Kyler Gordon at 39th overall. After trading back and selecting Lewis Cine with the final pick of the first round, the Vikings move up to add another defensive back in Round 2. PFF analysts were working all night in PFF's Live Draft Tracker, dissecting every single pick and giving a grade for each selection.
Grading teams' drafts immediately after the event is necessary in order to provide the proper evaluation of their actions in the moment.
Goedeke was getting love late in the second round, so the Bucs moved up three spots (giving up just a sixth-rounder to the Bills) to grab his upside and nastiness -- not unlike the retired Ali Marpet. White has the straight-line speed and receiving ability to make up for the loss of Ronald Jones in free agency. Adding a cornerback with one of their two Day 3 picks should be a priority. Analysis: Seattle had consecutive picks in the early second round because of compensation received from Denver in the Russell Wilson trade. In the second round, New Orleans selected a versatile defensive back in Taylor, whose size (6-foot, 199 pounds) and athleticism are nice. Analysis: The Saints did not have any third-round picks due to various trades. Analysis: I've revised my Thursday night grade for the Patriots from a D to a C after seeing how they used the draft capital obtained in their Round 1 trade with the Chiefs. (They turned the 94th overall pick into a fourth-rounder and a 2023 third-rounder). On Friday, New England made another deal with Kansas City, moving up four spots for a track-star-turned-solid-pass-catcher in Thornton, while the Chiefs picked Skyy Moore shortly thereafter. Analysis: The Raiders used their first- and second-round picks to acquire Davante Adams, so they didn't have a selection until midway through Round 3. Bell is a productive receiver who lacks great speed (much like former Brown Jarvis Landry) and I expect him to be a bargain. Analysis: They addressed their defensive need in the first round (corner Kaiir Elam) and then found Cook in Round 2. These 2022 NFL Draft quick-snap grades are an indication of whether I think a prospect's selection is of appropriate value given his college film and athleticism scores. Immediate draft grades provide a foundation for future evaluations. Waiting three years to evaluate draft classes, without accounting for how the decision was viewed at the time, usually leads to revisionist history.
It has been an eventful three rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft and we have multiple winners and losers thus far.
All the quarterback-needy teams have filled their starting needs at quarterback by now and the relationship between Baker and the Browns looks unlikely to be repaired. In the end, the Seahawks spent premium picks to protect Lock and showed some confidence in him by bypassing multiple quarterback prospects multiple times. On day two of the draft, he selected a free-falling Nakobe Dean in the third round to join the Eagles' defense. With these three selections, the Jets were able to get the CB1 and WR1 on most boards while also getting an edge rusher who was expected to go in the top 10 at the back end of round one. He’ll join an up-and-coming offense and try to help them get back to the postseason in 2022. I am not sure how this ends, but the options are dwindling for both sides. With the Panthers selecting Corral, this has removed them from the teams chasing Mayfield The first three rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft is in the books and it has been a wild one. This means unless they make a trade for Baker Mayfield or Jimmy G., former Broncos quarterback Drew Lock will be the Seahawks starting quarterback. Medicals dropped him but the Eagles expect him to be okay moving forward. In the second round, they were able to select Iowa State running back Breece Hall who was also considered the top player at his position. Charles Cross will be the guy at left tackle and Abraham Lucas could potentially be the guy at right tackle.
