Vladislav Avayev and Sergey Protosenya were found dead in their respective homes in Spain and Moscow.
The Mossos D'Esquadra, the Catalan police force, confirmed on Tuesday it is investigating three deaths, again without naming the victims. His body was found Tuesday, Spanish outlet El Punta Vui reported. He and his wife and daughter were staying in a rented luxury villa in Lloret de Mar, a coastal Catalan town, for the Easter period, according to Telecinco.
Sergey Protosenya, his wife and daughter were found just one day after the death of Vladislav Avayev and his family.
Investigators have found elements in the crime scene that do not match up with a domestic violence scenario, according to El Punt Avui, a local newspaper. Mr Protosenya, who was 56, had been the deputy chairman of Novatek, a Russian natural gas producer, since 2015, and had an estimated fortune of $440 million a decade ago, according to Russian media reports. Mr Avayev, who was 51, had served until recently as the vice president at Gazprombank, a bank formed to serve the gas giant Gazprom, and he had formerly been an official in the Kremlin under the presidency of Vladimir Putin.

Sergey Protosenya [Protosenya] worked in the Novatek Group from 1997 to 2015 and has proven himself to be a wonderful person and a wonderful family man, a strong professional who has made a great contribution to the formation and development of the company. Spanish authorities are reportedly so far working on the hypothesis that the incident was indeed a murder-suicide. An archived page on gas giant Novatek's website, dating back to March 2015 and seen by Newsweek, named Sergey Protosenya as the company's deputy chairman after a shake-up of the management board. Spanish detectives will be combing through the evidence to establish whether the incidents were tragedies sparked by domestic violence, or whether they had been staged. The bodies were found by distraught 26-year-old daughter Anastasia after she was unable to get hold of her family. The following day former Novatek deputy chairman Sergey Protosenya, 55, his wife Natalya, 53, and 18-year-old daughter, Maria, were found dead at their Spanish mansion.

Vladislav Avayev, 51, was found with a fatal gunshot wound in his multi-million dollar apartment on Universitetsky Prospekt on April 18, local authorities said. He had served as the deputy general director of Gazprom's unified settlement center, or the treasury, for corporate security. Investigators are said to be examining two different scenarios: that Protosenya killed his wife and daughter before taking his own life, or that all three were murdered by someone who then staged the crime scene. Protosenya was said to be worth about 400 million euros. His death reportedly took place on April 19—just a day after a former vice president of Russia’s Gazprombank was found dead along with his wife and daughter in similar circumstances in Moscow. Police have not officially named the family, however.
