NFL draft 2022: Packers, Chiefs, Eagles among 10 teams with most ... (USA TODAY)

Not all NFL teams have the same buy-in for this year's draft, as eight have multiple first-round picks while eight more are without a Day 1 selection.

The pressure has eased considerably since Philadelphia essentially swapped one of its three first-round picks for an additional Day 1 choice in 2023 via a trade with the Saints. Still, the Eagles are one of five teams with two selections in the top 20 and own five of the top 101 picks. Despite taking two first-round receivers in the last two years (Jalen Reagor and DeVonta Smith) and a second-rounder in 2019 (JJ Arcega-Whiteside), Philadelphia looks very much in the market for another pass catcher. For a team short on young talent and chasing three playoff squads within the division (including the defending-champion Rams), it's imperative that general manager John Schneider find reliable starters with their three Day 2 picks (Nos. 40, 41 and 72). The stakes of this draft are not lost on coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes, the latter of whom said his team was on the hunt for a "game-changer" with the No. 2 overall pick. That freewheeling approach might highlight that patience is at a premium, especially after Jacksonville squandered its first year of Trevor Lawrence's rookie contract on the Urban Meyer fiasco. One of the themes of this offseason has been aspiring contenders trading out of the first day of this year's draft in an effort to pick up veteran help. One outlier: New Orleans, which parted with 2023's first-rounder to position itself with two choices in the top 20. The Chiefs certainly have the means to move up the order, and perhaps the motivation is there as well given Veach's history of aggressive deals involving the draft. The Giants' long underperforming edge rush is another sore spot that should be addressed within the first two rounds, and cornerback should also be a priority with James Bradberry seemingly on the outs given his $21.8 million cap hit for 2022. Among the priorities are wide receiver, where Douglas' failed attempt at acquiring Tyreek Hill seems to signal an interest in adding a splashy target for Wilson, and defensive end, as coach Robert Saleh will depend on significant progress from the pass rush to fuel the last-place defense's turnaround. But Douglas can't be boxed in by positional constraints alone, and he'll need to provide a solid return on the final assets from the Jamal Adams and Sam Darnold trades. The return of Aaron Rodgers combined with the trade of Davante Adams created a unique dilemma.

NFL Draft trade rumors 2022: The 11 most likely scenarios to move ... (Sporting News)

What teams are most likely to use their first-round capital in the 2022 NFL Draft to either grab a prized prospect or stockpile extra picks?

Getting some capital later in the first round or early in the second could still give the Bills a nice value at any position. While New Orleans can easily move up to No. 5 if desire, Philadelphia can do one better and get into the Jets spot at No. 4 if it covets the playmaking of Hamilton this much. Buffalo's biggest need is a No. 2 cornerback to replace Levi Wallace, but other than that, it is intact as a strong Super Bowl contender. New England also tends to fall into the trade down mold under Bill Belichick, but should Thibodeaux or Hamilton fall, watch out for an aggressive move. Walker and another Georgia defensive line stud, Jordan Davis, should be on the radar. The Falcons, much like the Lions and Giants, are in a combination of rebuilding and house-cleaning mode. For a team to slide down, it is more interested in having a better combination of quality and quantity. But there's an equal chance new GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah works a deal to add picks for his team's own retooling. Given all the movement before mid April, don't expect that to remain status quo up and down the board. Since a little before last year's draft, 11 of the 32 picks have already moved from one team to another, in some case multiple times. New York's most appealing positions are offensive line and edge rusher. Those also are two of the draft's deepest positions and the team can get good potential starter value in the middle of the first round.

A Techstrong Research study of 531 IT professionals found that teams worry about losing IP to hyperscale cloud providers.

The survey also asked about the top business criteria for selecting a CSP. Trust was at the top of the list. Although the hyperscalers hold most of the cloud provider market share, devops teams are worried about these companies stealing intellectual property or becoming a direct competitor. Tech teams worry about protecting intellectual property in addition to managing costs and ensuring reliability when selecting a cloud service provider (CSP), according to a new report.

Draft Prospect Marcus Jones Helps Sustain Texans' Special Teams ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Texans made some strides on special teams last season, and drafting return specialist Marcus Jones could help sustain Houston's improvements.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jones ended his collegiate career with 46 total tackles (35 solo hits), 12 pass deflections and five interceptions. Jones did not participate in any on-field activities due to his ongoing rehabilitation following shoulder surgery. Their first meeting took place on April 1, during Jones' Pro Day at the University of Houston. Jones has the potential to help the Texans sustain their special team progression in kick returns. "How that puzzle is going to fit together, it’s my job to get that together earlier in the season than as we did a year ago. Barring any trades, the Texans are entering the draft with 10 picks.

Top Free-Agent Options for Teams Who Miss Out on Major Needs in ... (Bleacher Report)

The 2022 NFL draft is just over a week away, and it figures to be the focus of the football world for the rest of the month...

"Thibodeaux can be a good player in any scheme right out of the gate and has the long-term potential to be an All-Pro." He is a long strider who covers a lot of ground, no matter if he is playing as a deep safety or down in the trenches," Giddings wrote. However, Mathieu is a similarly versatile safety who can move around the field and will impact games. As long as Ogunjobi checks out medically, he can be an instant-impact starter and a long-term building block in virtually any scheme. Kyle Rudolph is the best realistic option for teams that miss out on a tight end in the draft. If a team cannot land a starting-caliber left tackle early in the draft, Brown is the most logical veteran alternative. He was a Pro Bowler in 2017 and had 634 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 2018. "The Buccaneers' situation is just too good if I decide to go back and play. Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker III has the potential to be a dangerous workhorse runner and receiver at the next level. He has enough long speed to threaten defenders vertically but is able to sink and stay tight on his route breaks," Tice wrote. He's big (6'3 ⅞", 219 lbs), can make the difficult catch and has enough speed and route acumen to find spaces in coverage. He went 4-3 as a starter with the Miami Dolphins.

Three-round NFL mock draft 2022 - Mel Kiper, Todd McShay predict ... (ESPN)

Three rounds, 105 picks and how our NFL draft analysts see each team upgrading. Where do the top quarterbacks and playmakers land?

The Raiders have just one pick in the first three rounds, and they have to find a right tackle to at least compete for the starting job. Woolen is a former receiver who is still learning the cornerback position, but he ran a 4.26 in the 40-yard dash at the combine at 6-foot-4. If he's still here, the Chiefs should try to add him to their rotation, even if he's only a third-down player as a rookie. Kinnard, a three-year starter for the Wildcats, played mostly right tackle in college, but I see guard as his best NFL position. I'm going to double up on short slot receivers for the Jags, because I'm not sure Laviska Shenault Jr.'s future is in Jacksonville. Todd gave the Jaguars Robinson a few picks ago, and Austin is a dynamo with the ball in his hands. Bonitto has the burst and bend to get home on the QB. McBride is a threat inline and from the slot. With their third pick in the top 34, the Lions could get a player who makes the whole defense better. If Davis Mills is going to have success in the NFL, Houston has to get some protection for him. Let's get the Commanders a difference-maker on the back end of the defense and worry about receiver on Day 2. Hutchinson, Walker and Thibodeaux went 1-2-3, but Johnson is also worthy of a top-10 pick, and the Giants have a glaring issue at edge rusher. I don't have Walker ranked this high -- he's No. 10 on my Big Board -- but he's going to go in the top five picks because of his ceiling.

This Year's NFL Draft Will Force Some Teams to Make an ... (Slate Magazine)

First-round picks are some of the league's most valuable assets in any case, and entrusting one to a quarterback means hitching a wagon to that player, at the ...

The issue for a handful of teams in this year’s draft is that, as hard as it might be to dive headfirst into the pool given all of the potential problems with all of the top quarterbacks, staying out might feel even less palatable. The fun will be in watching teams stake so much of their futures on trying to figure out who will do that—something that several teams are absolutely going to do. The most notable is the Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa, who was one of the best college QBs ever in an Alabama RPO offense and who hasn’t quite cracked everything else in two NFL seasons. Plus, the next person who says something about Ridder’s leadership that amounts to anything less than effusive praise of the QB will be the first I’ve heard. It was an awesome maneuver, and Pickett will be the last QB to do it on such a big stage, seeing as the NCAA banned it immediately afterward. But he played at Liberty, a school whose politics and general oddity kept it out of a conference during Willis’ two years as the starter after transferring from Auburn. The result was competition mostly made up of bad teams from the Group of Five and Football Championship Subdivision, with only a few appearances against good (not great) to bad Power Five teams. To pick a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft is to make a franchise-altering investment. The closest thing to a consensus about this year’s QB class is that the top two players are Pitt’s Kenny Pickett and Liberty’s Malik Willis. But neither grades out much higher than a mid–first-round pick on most big boards, and it is not hard to find credible draft analysts who see them as low–first-round talents in a normal year. Pickett made a bunch of excellent throws and earned the best Pro Football Focus grade of any QB in the country. Often—usually, even—the worst teams in the league are also the ones in the most dire need of a QB. That is not true of a lot of the league’s worst teams right now. In that spirit, all of the highest-ranked QBs in 2022 present wide ranges of potential outcomes. The class lacks something most drafts have nowadays: a consensus No. 1 quarterback who is destined to be the No. 1 overall pick, and often a No. 2 QB guaranteed to go not long after.

Realistic: Lacrosse can have the quickest turnaround because it really only takes one bunch of recruits to rejuvenate a team. Optimistic: Lacrosse was going to take some time to recover from the end of John Desko’s tenure, and they played a loaded schedule this year. It’s no longer the holy grail of the sport in college, and Coach Gait needs to turn things around quickly. Pessimistic: The zone got picked apart all season, even by very average teams, and throwing at least two rookies into starting roles isn’t guaranteed to fix that problem, regardless of their potential. This time around, there will be plenty of depth on the roster. You figure this team almost has to start 5-0 to have a serious chance at a 13th game.

All-Pro receiver Deebo Samuel told ESPN on Wednesday that he has requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers.

“It’s good to be around the guys and see them work out and get to put a face to who you’ve been watching on tape.” “It’s something that most of us weren’t used to doing and now we all know how to set up a meeting, join the meeting and add people to meetings," he said. You can do 20 Zoom calls and when you go to dinner with somebody you know, or somebody don’t know, certainly it’s a different kind of connection.” “I just want somebody to go in the area and see if his car is there and if he’s OK and if anything happened to him," she said, her voice breaking. Chargers GM Tom Telesco said the 20-minute in-person interviews with players are “less valuable than if you had a guy on a Zoom for an extended amount of time. "The great thing about what we’ve learned over the last couple of years is when we’re interviewing players, those respective coaches and coordinators and Kyle will get on the Zooms. And so even though they aren’t here, they are here.” It really helps to be able to separate and evaluate those guys.” A 2019 first-round draft pick by the Washington Redskins, Haskins was released by the team after going 3-10 over two seasons. When the former Ohio State star didn't, she told the dispatcher she tried to call him but he wasn't answering. If the Niners give in to Samuel's demand he would be the latest star receiver to switch teams this offseason. San Francisco will exercise the fifth-year option on Bosa but could try to lock him up this offseason. Samuel had 77 catches for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns, leading the NFL with 18.2 yards per reception.
