Matthew Perry Has A Positive Message For Bruce Willis And A Not ... (Cinema Blend)

Matthew Perry sent some major love to Bruce Willis and threw some playful shade at one of the movies they've made together.

And I’m now hoping that Willis and Matthew Perry are able to get together to catch some z’s. The star’s spouse is said to be working with “several professionals” and ensuring that her hubby has the best doctors possible. However, the follow-up was a financial flop and was far from a critical success. A particularly sweet story came from his Looper co-star, Joseph Gordon Levitt. The star recalled the Fifth Element lead giving him a compliment that he’s never forgotten. Massive names like Sylvester Stallone and John Travolta have reacted to the news and recalled memories of working with him. Following the announcement of Bruce Willis’ retirement from acting due to a health condition, many across the entertainment industry have been sending massive love to the actor.

A Tribute to Bruce Willis (UrbanMatter)

With his sudden retirement from acting due to a diagnosis of aphasia, let's take a look back at Bruce Willis career for his best works.

If there is something to take comfort in after his retirement, it is that he can enjoy this time with his family to enjoy what time he has left with them and make lasting memories and we can also have some respect for the man after recognizing that something was wrong with his mind, sought answers and made the best decision for himself and his family. Willis’ contributions go beyond the action genre as he has starred in some of the most critically acclaimed science fiction films of the past 30 years. In the all-star cast, Willis holds his own literally and figuratively but you may be surprised to learn that Willis’ character of Butch and Travolta’s Vincent are steeped in symbolism and were bound to clash at some point. It was a more dramatic turn for the normally comedic actor and he paired well with a young Haley Joel Osment. While Shyamalan has overused the twist technique, revealing that Dr. Crowe was dead the entire film is simply brilliant filmmaking and even more brilliant, is Willis’ acceptance of his fate and making amends with his widow while moving on to the afterlife. While Pulp Fiction is more known as John Travolta’s major comeback (which was then squandered 7 years later thanks to Battlefield Earth), Willis has a badass turn in the film during the middle act. The first film from writer/director M. Night Shyamalan, Willis was cast as Dr. Malcolm Crowe due to a previous film that was cancelled in order to satisfy his contractual obligations.

Bruce Willis Is Retiring: Paying Tribute to the Actor's Long Creative ... (My Modern Met)

Willis landed more starring roles in classic films including The Fifth Element, Armageddon, and The Sixth Sense. He never stopped appearing on television, and ...

So, there are still new ways to watch his work in the near future. Moore was one person in Willis' family to announce his retirement. During the 2010s, Willis continued to act and appeared in many direct-to-video action thrillers. Willis joined the drama club in high school and eventually made his way to New York City, where he supported himself by bartending while trying to catch his big break—which happened on the small screen. He got his start in off-Broadway productions in the late 70s and rose to fame via the television show Moonlighting in 1985. Since that time he’s been part of over 100 films, including the iconic Pulp Fiction as well as Die Hard, arguably the best movie to watch during Christmas time.

Give Bruce Willis An Honorary Oscar (TheGamer)

As Bruce Willis retires from acting, the Academy should be making plans to reward his career's work.

How you feel about the Academy, how you feel about the Oscars themselves, how you feel about honorary awards… He stars in two of the most iconic American movies of all time: Die Hard and Pulp Fiction. Though slightly less famous than the original, the threequel Die Hard With a Vengeance has to be a contender for the greatest action movie ever. You have to produce something special in order to win an Oscar, but for a competitive Oscar, you have to produce it once. They remain the apex, the best way to honour someone, and the single greatest honour a performer can win. Dwayne Johnson is probably the closest analogy to Willis, and he will soon disappear into the DCEU - also he’s just not as good. Paul Newman's win for The Color of Money was more embarrassment on the Academy’s part that he had gone his whole career without recognition. For an honorary Oscar, you need to produce it over a career. Bruce Willis went his whole career without winning an Oscar, and following his retirement, he needs to be right at the front of the line for an honorary award next year. The flip side of this is winners don’t always win them for the performance they’re nominated for. They gave it to Jackson in recognition of his legendary body of work. They didn’t drag someone off the streets of Los Angeles to hold up an award to fill in some ceremony time. At the most recent Oscars, Samuel L. Jackson was presented with an honorary Academy Award, and he is not just ‘anybody’, he’s the highest grossing actor in the history of cinema.

It has a reputation as a terrifying thriller, but what makes The Sixth Sense stand the test of time is its heart. Cole learns that he’s not a freak, and Malcolm learns to be at peace with his new stage in life. [Osment] wasn’t acting, it was cold, and you could see the physicality on his skin and the way he’s shivering.” It speaks to the strength of The Sixth Sense that even after decades of overuse, the scene still retains its power. His life — the one where he was successful, the one where he had a happy marriage — is gone, and he can’t figure out why. Within him is a secret, something that seems to rule his life on a daily basis. 1999 is considered by many to be the best movie year of all time, but four out of the top five box office films that year were part of a larger franchise.

Justin Long shared a funny memory of an awkward moment he had with Bruce Willis and called working with him a highlight of his career.

“I just wanted to express the respect and deep admiration I have for Bruce and his family as they move forward with the courage and high spirits that have always defined them.” “It’s been difficult to find the right words for someone I’ve always looked up to—first on the big screen, and then by some wild stroke of luck, in person,” he began. Another fan wrote, “That’s a great story!” “At one point, he was huddled up with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, while I was awkwardly standing off to the side as his briefly neglected date. “This pic is from when we were shooting Die Hard 4 and, after we wrapped one day, he asked me if I wanted to go see the new Rocky movie,” he explained. Many tributes have since poured in for the “Die Hard” actor, including one from costar Justin Long.

This disorder is suffered by 1% of the world population and the actress recognized in 2009 that she suffered from some psychological illness, without knowing at that time what it was. A source close to Bruce gave his testimony and mentioned the accident that occurred in 2002. “Sometimes when you talked to him, he seemed off track. The American was in the middle of filming “Tears of the Sun”, the film in which he played Lieutenant Walters, when he suffered the impact of a projectile on his forehead after a detonation of pyrotechnics in the studio. The actor suffers from aphasia, which is basically a language problem with which the person was not born, a condition that could be caused by the strong blow to the head he suffered in that incident two decades ago.

It's also readily apparent that he was having fun in the director's goofy world, and that's a stark contrast to just about everything that followed. Looper marked one of the final times Willis went all-in on a performance, and it shows. Willis is more than adequately tender in his scenes with Haley Joel Osment, which ultimately comprise the majority of the film. Furthermore, Willis' first pairing with Shyamalan is probably the closest the Academy ever came to considering Willis for a trophy. When his son shows up at the door with Sully's grandson, the aging man realizes he has a second chance to actually be involved in the life of someone he helped create. The Willis family faced that fear and accepted life's invitation to relinquish the stage. With help, work, faith and often a sense of humor, family caregivers in these and similar circumstances can achieve the often elusive peace of mind — and the more significant conquest of experiencing beauty in the heartache. So much of the angst we endure stems from an unwillingness to accept what is. The wave of sadness initially causes many to panic and fight against the sense of drowning. Sometimes, the impaired loved one seems "normal," yet those moments only serve to confuse caregivers. As Mr. Willis' family struggles to care for someone with chronic challenges, they model the daily hard choices family caregivers make.

What is aphasia? A neurologist explains Bruce Willis' diagnosis (Inverse)

Aphasia can occur at any age. Here's what to know, including for temporary or progressive forms of the brain affliction.

But the road can belong, and it depends on the extent of damage to the brain. A clinical trial of certain types of drugs is underway but in the early stages. Unlike in cases of stroke, the onset will be very mild at first — people will slowly forget the names of people or of objects. It is usually people over the age of 65 simply because they have a higher risk of stroke. When people have aphasia after stroke or hemorrhage, the diagnosis is made by a neurologist. In the non-progressive form, consistent therapy will result in recovery of speech and understanding. There is also a separate form of the condition called primary progressive aphasia. A loss of both speaking and comprehension of language would suggest damage to both the large temporal lobe and frontal lobe. Some people with aphasia only have difficulty understanding language — a result of damage to the temporal lobe, which governs how sound and language are processed in the brain. But people at higher risk of stroke — so those with cardiovascular disabilities and diabetes – are more at risk. Almost everyone with aphasia struggles when trying to come up with the names of things they know but can’t find the name for. Aphasia is a communication disorder that affects someone’s ability to speak or understand speech.

"Simply put, in Alzheimer's and less common dementias, the disease process affects specific speech areas of the brain, causing aphasia," Dr. Dan says. According to Dr. Dan, "Aphasia can be caused by a variety of disorders, including vascular blockage (e.g. stroke and various dementias). There are specific areas in the brain impacted by these diseases and lead to aphasia. Aphasia manifests itself in the inability to read, talk, write, etc. It is distinguished by the finding of tangles of abnormal proteins with brain imaging. That said, there are some ways one can improve their aphasia and lessen the impairment. A person with aphasia can still function when it comes to day-to-day activities. In general, signs that indicate you may have aphasia include trouble forming complete sentences, word finding is a challenge, wrong use of words, difficulty understanding written/spoken sentences, etc." "Aphasia affects a person's daily life in many ways," Dr. Dan reveals. As a result, the signs that indicate one might have aphasia can differ drastically, depending on the severity of the impairment. So what is this incurable disease and what are signs that indicate you have aphasia? Expressive aphasia typically manifests as difficulty in word finding within one's speech or writing—meaning you know in your head what you wish to say, but quite literally can't find the words to say it. With vascular, a person may have a brief blood clot that 'transiently' slows blood flow to the brain, resulting in a brief aphasia, or temporary episode."
