The notices were published on Thursday afternoon and revealed, among other things, that rapid test results would also be valid for entry. Guidelines issued on Thursday stipulate that travellers with a recovery certificate will still need to present a negative COVID test to enter Malta. But government sources told Times of Malta that the guidelines would be updated to clarify that people with an EU-recognised recovery certificate would not also require a negative test result. The Maltese health authorities will be recognising both PCR and rapid tests for travel to the island, a move tourism stakeholders have for months said is crucial for the sector's recovery.

There is less optimism, however, when considering the nation's fortunes. This figure is 31 percentage points higher than the same one for last year. The results of the survey show that the trust of the Maltese in health and medical staff is very high, as is the case in the rest of the European bloc.

Small sensors placed under the skin send out alerts when levels get too low or high, allowing patients or their carers to better monitor the condition. The costs of the device can run into hundreds or even thousands of euros, with additional recurring expenses to buy the sensors. Fearne tweeted that as it had promised prior to the March general election, the government was offering the device to those under 21 and will then extend it to all those under 35 years of age and eventually to all type 1 diabetic patients.

Extending the service to all patients aged up to 21 part-fulfils a pledge made by the Labour Party, which in its electoral manifesto said that it will be providing all diabetes type 1 patients, irrespective of age, with the monitors within the next legislature. A project to provide type 1 diabetes patients with free continuous blood glucose monitors will be extended to patients aged up to 21 as of next week, Chris Fearne said on Saturday.
