Tiger Woods hasn't decided whether he's playing in the 2022 Masters. We track his movements until he makes a final decision.
It is a true testament to his work ethic because we all know what he does on the golf course, how hard he works, and the stories and the legend. Once it was discovered that Woods flew in from Florida, with son Charlie, and played a practice round at Augusta National Golf Club on Tuesday, the speculation started. "He ended up behind me and just joined up with me because it was a little slow in front of us," Davis said. I think the only reason he's not going to play is if he doesn't feel ready or if there is -- just his foot, leg, back, whatever it may be sort of kicks up and then he just doesn't feel ready to play." But sitting there and doing all that [physical therapy], that's got to be just boring at the very least, let alone hard." Billy Horschel: "With everything he's gone through, with all the injuries and with all the personal stuff, he's always -- he still has that drive and that fire within him to still play golf. Everyone wanted a glimpse of Woods when he arrived at Augusta National on Sunday. Cameron Davis was one of the few that saw him up close. Shoot, I've thought about it in the past, and I may be on the first tee watching him tee off if my tee time works out and everything just because it's such a special moment." After Woods returned from multiple back surgeries and knee injuries, Homa said nothing surprises him about the 15-time major champion -- not even Woods returning to play in a major championship just over 14 months after the wreck. While he was clearly getting prepared for the 86th Masters and a run at a sixth green jacket, Woods also enjoyed his afternoon alongside two good friends. Woods has not played a competitive round of golf since the 2020 Masters at Augusta National. He has won this event five times, most recently in 2019. "Just with the rods and plates and screws that are in my leg, I needed something different, something that allowed me to be more stable.
The Masters countdown is on, and that includes a Tiger Woods countdown as well. Will the biggest source of intrigue tee up on Thursday?
Prior to that, he made his last official tournament appearance at the 2020 Masters in November. He also played the course last week with his son, Charlie, and friend Justin Thomas. Will he? Won't he? It's the question on everyone's lips.

Woods, who sustained significant leg injuries in a single-car crash in February 2021, has played several practice rounds at Augusta National this week.
“I love competing, and I feel like if I can still compete at the highest level, I’m going to,” said Woods, who later added that he would not “show up to an event unless I think I can win it.” “As of right now, I feel like I am going to play,” Woods, 46, said on Tuesday. Asked whether he believed that he could win his sixth green jacket at Augusta on Sunday, Woods replied, “I do.”
“I do,” he said. Woods suffered serious injuries to his lower body, especially his right leg — to a point where amputation was on the table, and it seemed far- ...
“I love competing, and I feel like if I can still compete at the highest level, I’m going to, and if I feel like I can still win, I’m going to play,” Woods said. We’ve worked hard to get to this point, to get to this opportunity to walk the grounds, test it out, and see if I can do this. “I feel like I still have the hands to do it, the body’s moving good enough,” Woods said. “And now that I am playing, now that everything is focused on how do I get myself into the position where I’m on that back nine on Sunday with a chance? “How am I going to get all the swelling out and recover for the next day? Woods arrived back at Augusta National on Sunday and played the back nine.
The five-time champion told the media on Tuesday that he feels healthy enough to tee it up on Thursday at Augusta National.
And while he does not walk with a limp, it is clear that Woods favors his right foot, especially when navigating hills both up and down. But Woods made a trip to Augusta National on March 29 and played the course with his son, Charlie, and fellow PGA Tour pro Justin Thomas, completing all 18 holes. Couples for years has dealt with his own health issues, specifically his back, and has not played a competitive round in 2022. Woods suffered multiple injuries to his right left, ankle and foot and required several surgeries and a lengthy rehabilitation process. But he rebounded to birdie five of the final six and shoot 76. It was his last official event due to a serious car accident on Feb. 23, 2021.
After weeks of speculation, the golf legend said "I feel like I am going to play" in the tournament. His announcement comes less than 14 months after he was ...

AUGUSTA, Ga. — For months, Tiger Woods has been managing our expectations. First it was a question of whether we'd see him play golf at a competitive level.
“Well, I love competing, and I feel like if I can still compete at the highest level, I’m going to, and if I feel like I can still win, I’m going to play. In the meantime, it’s worth basking in the the improbability of the moment: Woods is fighting back. “I don’t show up to an event unless I think I can win it. But that was before car accidents and surgeries and the inevitabilities of aging. “As of right now, I feel like I am going to play,” Woods said. Now, given the conditions that my leg is in, it gets even more difficult.” He mentioned that preparations that used to seem simple now take multiple hours. Then came the real news: Woods isn’t just here to show up. “Yeah, he’s striking it well,” Davis attested. The Genesis came and went. After that came the Masters waiting game. Cameron Davis, who Woods intersected with on Sunday afternoon, was optimistic about his chances to contend.

The five-time champion at Augusta National made the announcement Tuesday morning. "As of right now, I feel like I'm going to play," Woods said. He will play ...
"I do," he said. "As of right now, I feel like I'm going to play," Woods said. Woods was asked if he believes he can win this week.
The golf legend said two days before the tournament that "as of right now" he intends to play his first major since being seriously injured in a car accident.
It would be a remarkable feat since doctors considered amputating his right leg after he crashed his SUV down the side of a hill while driving in suburban Los Angeles on Feb. 23, 2021. “I still have my own leg, which was questionable for a while, and it’s functioning, and I’m just really tired.” Woods last played in December, when he took the course with his son, Charlie, 13, at the PNC Championship in Orlando, Florida, which pairs PGA players with family members.
Tiger Woods seemed to have completed the greatest comeback ever in 2019. And yet, he may still have one epic chapter left in his story.
To this day it is the most dominant win in Masters history. The idea of facing Tiger on a Sunday at Augusta is one the new wave of players embraces, not shies away from. Not to mention Tiger would match his idol, Jack Nicklaus, with six Masters titles if he takes a magical victory this weekend. 13 months removed from an accident that nearly took his life, it would mark the greatest comeback in sports history. I feel like if I think I can win, I’m going to play. He lapped the field, posting a score of 18-under and winning by 12 strokes. “As of right now,” Woods said with the world hanging on the words to follow. Tiger Woods has said throughout his career he would never enter a tournament that he does not believe he can win. The addition of Tiger to any tournament instantly makes it more exciting. There is also the challenge of a young, deep and talented field. ESPN golf analyst and former Florida Gator, Andy North, spoke about the challenge a wet golf course presents for Woods.Audio Player Following a traumatic car accident 13 months ago that nearly took his life, Woods returns to Augusta this week in stunning fashion.
Don't get used to seeing this version of Tiger too often, Michael Rosenberg writes, but appreciate the journey required to get to Augusta National.
But let’s figure he will at least try to play next month’s PGA at Southern Hills and then the U.S. Open at Brookline, too. Then he talked about it a lot – partly because he had become more open with the media, and partly, one imagines, because he wanted people to know that only extreme injuries could knock out Tiger Woods. There is each and every day.” He might have misheard the question, but the answer was revealing. The comeback that culminated in his 2019 Masters victory was stunning, but when Woods showed up that week, he was much healthier than he is now, and he had been playing championship-level golf for more than a year. How can a Presidents or Ryder Cup captain trust his health enough to use a selection on him, especially with so many matches in a short time frame? Hearing him talk, it does not: "We've worked hard to get to this point, to get to this opportunity to walk the grounds, test it out, and see if I can do this." The ramifications of that are stark. Augusta National did him a solid with tee times so ideal, he might as well have chosen them himself: 10:34 a.m. Thursday, which is late enough that he should avoid the coldest, wettest part of the day, and then 1:41 p.m. Friday, which gives him plenty of time to recover. If he plays one more event this year, the best guess is that it will be at the British Open, because that’s at St. Andrews, a place steeped in both golf and Tiger history. Playing through the weekend would be a wild success. He carried a caveat into his press conference here Tuesday, saying he plans to play “as of right now,” but fully expects to play. When Woods mangled his leg in a horrific single-car accident in Southern California last February, he was recovering from his fifth microdiscectomy surgery, with no indication of when he might return.

There are a lot of muscle groups that are involved in walking down an incline so we shall see, but I think he can do it." You are trying to get the ankle to move, the knee to move, the hip to move again and then you start with strength and endurance and rehab and your body's awareness of space." You may remember he won the U.S. Open with a broken leg back in 2008. "Walking down those hills is going to be a challenge, and I think the most challenge for him is that and seeing how that is going to affect him in the later rounds. And then you are trying to do a lot of range of motion work. It has been a long road to recovery for Tiger Woods, much of in private.

The pain will lessen, and he will continue to get stronger, but his future now lies in his hands and in his mind and in his ability to endure. He won six more majors after his wreck and when people think of him now, they think of his toughness as much as the perfect swing and the easy triumphs of his pre-injury prime. The next morning he felt good and suddenly all this felt possible. And Tiger knows that if he'd been hurt back in 1949, without his modern surgeons and therapists, there is no way he'd be back at Augusta. Doctors didn't think Hogan would walk again -- but he did. He broke his left ankle, his collarbone, a rib, his pelvis in two places, along with lots of abrasions, contusions and internal injuries. In 1949, Hogan almost died when he wrecked his Cadillac while driving through the fog and ice between Dallas and El Paso. A Greyhound bus was passing a truck and hit Hogan's car head-on. Last week he flew to Augusta to see if he could make it around the course. His public downfall, the affairs and the arrest, felt authentic but a reflection of his worst impulses. Surgeons put him back together and for three months he sat in a hospital bed in his house. A year ago, he didn't know if this was the kind of day he'd ever enjoy again. The hurting leg and back is the price he pays for that agency and control. We've worked hard to get to this point, to get to this opportunity to walk the grounds, test it out, and see if I can do this.
