Review — LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is perfect for fans ... (Windows Central)

Regardless of which Star Wars trilogy is your favorite, this humorous LEGO retelling of all nine main films will be a hit with fans.

This humor was especially well done in the original and prequel trilogies. This also means that I was able to drive a podracer in Episode 1, even if the level itself wasn't an actual race. One thing that can be mildly frustrating is that if one player initiates a mission, the other will be pulled into it. Among the most notable ones, mission markers and waypoints failed to show up while I was in the vast multilevel Gungan city from The Phantom Menace, which made it nearly impossible to find the specific doorway I needed to advance the story. I had a hard time getting through the latest trilogy with Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren since these movies have never sat well with me. For instance, I upgraded the Astromech Socket Expert skill so droids like R2-D2 can bypass a specific puzzle with just the press of a button. While you do have a health bar, the gameplay is relatively simple and you'll spawn right back into place if an enemy destroys you. There are hundreds of characters and ships but you sometimes cannot unlock them all on your first playthrough, so you'll want to come back to a mission and try it again with different characters' skills. The first time you play a chapter, you have to do it in Story Mode, which means you need the specific characters that belong in that story. I was a little worried that the gags wouldn't land as well with full voice acting, which the older LEGO Star Wars video games didn't have. It takes about 1-1.5 hours to run through each episode on average, and around 13 hours to beat the game, although you can go back and spend dozens of hours collecting everything you missed. As a kid, I had played and replayed all of the LEGO Star Wars games that came out and so I was eager to check out this latest installment.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Review - Embracing The ... (Game Informer)

TT Games crafted a massive game that dazzles with its number of unlockable characters, but offers an uneven journey to them.

Despite being periodically uneventful, the Skywalker Saga is a thorough and fun examination of all three Star Wars movie trilogies. Studs can also be spent to enhance skills and unlock new abilities for the different character classes. The bulk of side content, which is a big part of this experience, mostly comes up short, despite delivering fantastic rewards, like more playable characters. You can exchange well-earned studs for clues that lead to character locations and unlocking requirements. While nailing the little moments, the immense scale of the project appears to have been too wide for TT Games to harness, as some of the content is uncharacteristically dull or uneven. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a massive game, consisting of roughly 400 playable characters, nine movies to journey through, and more puns, jokes, and sight gags than even Jar Jar Binks can handle.

Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga review – a beautifully-built galaxy (The Loadout)

TT Games' latest entry into the iconic Lego Star Wars series is fantastic, marrying light-hearted humour with epic moments to create an unforgettable ...

TT Games is hitting its stride with Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and it only makes me more hopeful of what the future holds for Lego Star Wars and the other IPs it works with. When you say “I love you” to this game, it responds with “I know” and throws a hilarious Palpatine moment at you in the midst of an intense confrontation between the light and darkness. A lot of the time, though, I actually found that Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was quite intuitive in the way it adapts gameplay sequences and scenes that feature a one-on-one duel for two players. The only real fault I can find with Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is with the way it handles split-screen multiplayer – and even then, the issues are minor when compared to the greater experience. There’s a lot hidden in TT Games’ latest iteration of a Galaxy Far, Far Away – and I know I’ve only scratched the surface of finishing this game. Everything about my experience with the opening moments of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was seriously impressive and incredibly exciting – from the open space exploration to the voice-acted cutscenes and enhanced combat mechanics. With TT Games looking to streamline the storytelling, there are some narrative jumps too – for example, a young Anakin Skywalker is whisked away to become a Jedi-in-training without a second thought from Qui-Gon Jinn (and no mention of Midi-chlorians either!). While fans of the films will still be able to easily follow, it could make things a little confusing if you’re not fully familiar with Star Wars’ story. The most impressive part of this is the use of weather effects, unique to each location. There’s no use of haptic feedback, just standard vibrations, and no use of the adaptive triggers. Playing through that same climactic moment in TT Games’ first Lego Star Wars game just weeks later cemented my love of gaming – and Star Wars. To say I was excited to get stuck into Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on PS5 for this review was an understatement – and, I’m pleased to say that this game does not disappoint. 2005’s Lego Star Wars: The Video Game was TT Games’ first foray into the world of Lego video games and, for many of us, playing through its light-hearted take on the Prequel Trilogy is one of the earliest memories we have with videogames. So, it immediately highlighted the new level of freedom on offer – don’t worry, though, you don’t have to wait long if you start with another trilogy for the same experience.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga review: Fulfill your destiny (Shacknews)

With the episodic Star Wars films now concluded, developer TT Games has returned to a galaxy far, far away with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which ...

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the definitive LEGO Star Wars experience. Encompassing all of the nine episodic films, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga also serves as a greatest hits for all the tunes heard throughout the series. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is undoubtedly the best looking LEGO video game to date. What’s instantly noticeable in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, is how deep of a reverence and care it has for the source material. It’s here that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga delivers as the ultimate LEGO Star Wars sandbox. Continuing the story of Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren, these chapters feel like a worthy sequel to 2016’s LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga being the sixth entry in the LEGO Star Wars franchise, there’s a good deal of content that makes it feel like we’ve been here before. It’s also impressive how in a game that lets you play as hundreds of characters, most of them feel unique from one another. While most LEGO Star Wars titles used human voices sparingly, Skywalker Saga has fully voiced cutscenes and dialogues for just about every character. It’s an impressive final product that celebrates both the cinematic and LEGO history of the Star Wars saga. The Death Star trench run in A New Hope and the Podracing sequence from The Phantom Menace are among the iconic Star Wars moments that feel just as thrilling in-game. Each of the nine films is essentially a chapter in the game, with players having access to the first film in each trilogy to start off.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga review: Focus, Padawan ... (Digital Trends)

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga features a massive galactic sandbox that's fun to explore, but also lacks focus.

TT Games is trying to change the notion of what a Lego game can be. It always feels divided between being an accurate retelling of the Star Wars series and an ambitious galactic sandbox where players can go anywhere as anyone. But like the protagonists of each Star Wars trilogy, The Skywalker Saga has an identity crisis. The Skywalker Saga features many planets and locales that are truly fun to explore. Despite that, all nine films are telling linear stories, and the game is constantly trying to shuffle the player to the next big thing. Developer TT Games appears to have recognized that because Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the most ambitious Lego game in years. This was also unfulfilling as The Skywalker Saga has to rush through each story to include all nine films. These open-ended hubs are all large and full of exciting challenges, Easter eggs, and even full-blown side-quests to discover, and are by far the best part of the game. I chose to play the game in release order, from A New Hope to The Rise of Skywalker. The introductory level of A New Hope does an amazing job at highlighting how much has improved compared to past Lego games. I was disappointed to find that the game really doesn’t do that. That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the new features here. This makes it a perfectly enjoyable Lego title for players who may have fallen out of love with the series and an exciting teaser of where this franchise can still go.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Review - A Fine Addition To ... (TheGamer)

You reach that ultimate finale of the prequel era, the lava of Mustafar bubbling as two brothers strike blade against blade. It's a heartfelt, momentous ...

It’s the first Lego Star Wars to bundle the films together since the Complete Saga and that’s a tall order, especially since it’s now nine films. And the best thing it does is having all the episodes and levels in the menu, making it more intuitive than ever to navigate. The signature puzzles, platforming, and boss fights are all present, but there are just as many on-rails fights and space battles that let you experience the action of the films rather than relegating it to a cutscene, and TT balances it in a way that means you get a good mix of both through the saga. It’s a Lego game - a platformer that a kid can pick up and enjoy without hassle. They finally have a Lego Star Wars and it’s one that knocks the old out of the park. The simplicity that made the other Lego games a household staple isn’t lost. That’s because it’s a game that not only celebrates Lego but the PS2 era as a whole. Cover shooting is there, but I never had to use it - you can just stand in the open and it’s very rare that you’ll get caught out. The small world hubs have that interconnected feel of Jak 2’s Haven City, there’s that collect-a-thon charm of Sly Cooper, and the space hopping wonder of Ratchet & Clank. It’s no wonder I love it - it takes everything good about the PS2 era of platformers and merges them together. The levels aren’t about telling the story anymore. I was too young to understand what was going on, so I had the mindless fun of platforming and spamming buttons to keep me entertained. The Lego games were my introduction to Star Wars, even before the films.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga: The Kotaku Review (Kotaku)

This isn't the first time Lego and Star Wars have been digitally combined, but it's easily the best.

And if, like me, you love Star Wars, the in-joke references to the films and past Lego games are a lot of fun, too. Unlike the past Lego Star Wars games, Skywalker Saga uses a behind-the-back camera angle along with improved, more modern-feeling combat and movement controls. Even bits that didn’t matter in-game, like a small Technic piece used to pop a droid out of its seat easily, were included in the digital ship. It’s a shitty situation and one which TT Games needs to avoid in the future for the sake of its own devs. The end result: one of the best Star Wars games ever made. So, understand that what I’m about to say comes from a place of pure love and care: Star Wars is really silly and dumb.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - Best Order to Play the ... (Den of Geek)

There's no wrong way to play LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, but here are a few of the best ways to work your way through the trilogies.

I’d also argue that those trying to really learn these games may find that The Phantom Menace is the best starting point as it’s structured in a way that really lets you experience a lot of the new ideas found in this collection in a pretty logical way. Whether that’s an argument for playing the games in the “Movie Release” order or saving the best for last is again up to you. Honestly, it’s not that crazy of a way to play through these games if you’re mostly interested in getting to The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker as soon as possible. Granted, the LEGO version of The Rise of Skywalker fares slightly better than the movie, but it’s still not a highlight. The biggest advantage to playing through The Skywalker Saga in this order is that it allows you to really put the prequel trilogy in a different context. Jumping straight from the Prequel Trilogy to the Sequel Trilogy is kind of jarring no matter how you do it. Indeed, if the first Star Wars films were released later than they were (and in a different context), Hollywood logic may have dictated that the original films be followed by sequels and that a series of prequel films be released years down the line. As such, this order is still a great way to experience the LEGO Star Wars games that also lets you play through some of the Skywalker Saga‘s best gameplay moments first. That being the case, I can easily see some longtime LEGO Star Wars fans justifying this strange order simply to get to those entirely new experiences as quickly as possible. The fact that it also allows them to experience that saga in the correct chronological narrative order happens to be an added benefit. The Skywalker Saga lets you choose to start your session in The Phantom Menace, A New Hope, or The Force Awakens (the first entries in each sub-trilogy). Once you beat one of those games, you’re able to move on to the next entry in that trilogy. While the LEGO Star Wars games have always been fun, The Skywalker Saga expands the scope of those titles in a way that makes them far more substantial without compromising the simpler pleasures they’ve traditionally offered.

How LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Is Leveling ... (Star Wars)

TT Games' Dawn McDiarmid sits down with StarWars.com to discuss the making of the amitious LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Dawn McDiarmid: Yes, Pew Pew Mode. Unlocking Pew Pew Mode is like journeying back to when you saw Star Wars for the first time as a kid, and you just had to make all the SFX for the lightsabers and blasters yourself. Dawn McDiarmid: As you travel around the galaxy, you will find many nods to other Star Wars content. But personally, all the things I can’t wait for the players to experience are the little interactions with characters on worlds the player will never have experienced before. The Skywalker Saga revisits the old films and approaches the new with the same attention to detail and humor that we are known for. This game aims not to be a remake with the addition of new films, but an all-new experience of the stories we love, for both old fans and new. On top of this, our new blaster battles bring you straight into the action. Game development has come a long way since LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game blistered thumbs way back in 2005, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is leveraging all the medium’s advancements to deliver the biggest, best entry in the series. Players have never before been able to explore the Star Wars galaxy like this. This game is one of the best-looking we’ve ever created and is easily the most ambitious. Everything you see in this game was built from the ground-up in our new engine by our amazing team, and it really shines through. Alongside all the important story beats any fan would expect, from podraces to Rey Skywalker, this game is our biggest yet, featuring an entire galaxy’s worth of content for players to explore. Traveling throughout the galaxy, players can not only experience the stories they know and love, but also create their own adventures, exploring planets, rescuing those in need, taking down Star Destroyers, and feeding a very hungry Sarlacc!

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - 10 Beginner Tips (TheGamer)

From where to farm for studs to tips on how to reach those hard to get Kyber Bricks, this guide will get you started on the right foot.

Everyone you talk to will help lead you to something of value. Obviously, the more types of characters you have, the easier it will be to obtain these bricks. Another excellent use for your Kyber Bricks is to unlock skills that will increase the amount of studs you gain. Worst case scenario, you repeat a level only to fail to accomplish any of the challenges, but you will still earn a ton of studs in the process. The name of the game here is knowing where the next enemy to hit is going to be before you dispatch the current enemy you are fighting. However, in the earlier part of the game, you may find that you don’t have a ton of them on hand. There are a number of objects you are quite simply not able to obtain on the first go-around. By the time you finish the second mission in A New Hope, you could have probably already completed all of A Phantom Menace's levels. You will need to return to these missions in the freeplay mode with different character types. So, if you are looking to collect all of these, your first recourse is to turn to said map. Thankfully, completing the very first mission of Episode 4: A New Hope will give you access to R2-D2 and C-3PO. In order to gain the required amount of studs, your safest bet is to break everything you see.

Every 'LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga' DLC Pack — Plus ... (Distractify)

'LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga' is finally here! But there's more than just the base game. Here's what we know about the DLC packs.

The latest installment in the LEGO Star Wars game franchise is a brand new experience that features gameplay across the entire Skywalker Saga story. Here’s a breakdown of the extra content players can purchase and enjoy. After a very long wait, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is finally here. The LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga base game will automatically feature content, locations, and characters from all nine “saga” films, Episodes I-IX. However, two DLC packs will add the two Star Wars anthology films to the fray. In addition to DLCs celebrating the non-saga live-action films and Disney Plus shows, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will also release DLCs featuring classic versions of players’ favorite characters — plus, a whole bunch of trooper variants. Three of the announced LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga DLC packs will feature characters from hit Star Wars Disney Plus shows such as The Mandalorian (both seasons) and the first season of The Bad Batch.

'The Skywalker Saga' is a fun Lego set with unnecessary extra pieces (The Washington Post)

The Skywalker Saga” has a lot of heart and may be the best iteration of the Lego series. It's just hard for me to say I had a wonderful time with a game ...

“The Skywalker Saga” didn’t need to hide collectibles in every nook and cranny across the galaxy. TT Games intended for “The Skywalker Saga” to be the company’s most ambitious Lego game yet. Those venues and missions provided a stark answer to the question of “What’s worth your time?” from both a player and developer perspective. As you progress through the game’s nine episodes, you slowly collect Kyber bricks(Lego’s version of the crystals that power lightsabers). And the bricks allow you to develop the unique skills for the different classes of characters in the game — the Jedi, the protocol droids, the bounty hunters, etc. In one of the most notable changes from the studio’s standard Lego format, “The Skywalker Saga” does away with the wide, third-person camera angle from past games. Speaking of blasters, there are a number of new bells and whistles added to the combat as well.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - How to Enable Mumble Mode (Game Rant)

Mumble Mode is an option in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga that removes the voice acting and makes the characters mumble instead.

Instead, LEGO Star Wars fans need to press up on the d-pad to open the Holoprojector menu. Having Mumble Mode checked will replace all voices with mumbles for the classic LEGO Star Wars experience. The LEGO Star Wars series of games has been around for quite some time now, but LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the first to use full voice acting for all the iconic Star Wars characters.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - How to Unlock Every Extra ... (Den of Geek)

If you've ever wondered if Star Wars would be better with baguette lightsabers, dance parties, and mumbling, The Skywalker Saga has you covered.

The LEGO movies have a running gag where most gun SFX are replaced by mouth-made sounds such as “bang” and “pew.” While Star Wars characters never got to join in on the onomatopoeia, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s Pew Pew mode fixes this oversight. Maybe they all have something akin to The Skywalker Saga’s Universal Translator cheat, which lets any playable character understand any language. The cheat is the ultimate test of fortitude that challenges gamers to play as long as possible while accompanied by Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes. Cantina Music can be unlocked for 250,000 studs. Instead, they grunted, mumbled, and uttered the occasional “Ooh” and “Aah.” The original LEGO Star Wars games were no exception, and The Skywalker Saga lets players return to that classic presentation style thanks to Mumble Mode. This extra option, when activated, replaces every spoken line of dialogue with indecipherable gibberish. When active, the cheat replaces certain attack effects with a sparkly rainbow variant. Like Television Mode, Retro Mode completely alters how the game looks. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is filled with enough content to ensure that most gamers and Star Wars fans will be able to return to the title for weeks and months to come. Well, the Baguette Lightsabers cheat turns in-game lightsabers…into baguettes. Super GNK Droid, as its name suggests, adds a special GNK Droid (i.e., the box-like robots that go “gonk”) to the player’s party. Here’s hoping you unlocked all the other stud multiplier bonuses first. Studs x2 costs 1,000,000 studs to unlock. They essentially act like cheat codes that allow players do everything from earn additional in-game currency faster to converting the galaxy into one big dance party.

This retelling of a story from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away is funny, good-looking and easy enough that you won't need to Force your way ...

While it’s not a 1-to-1 retelling and your favourite moment might have been left in the toy chest, it’s a knowing showcase of Star Wars’ place in pop culture – memes and all – in a deep, but accessible package. Really, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is all the action from the Star Wars series, swaddled in the slapstick silliness LEGO has become known for in entertainment. The main jarring parts come from the sound-alike voice acting, which can be a little uneven in places, and where some characters have their famous lines paraphrased by different characters.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a fun and memorable experience that can be enjoyed on everything from PC to PlayStation 5. These different types of characters can be upgraded to improve statistics, improve your health pools, and give you different strengths during your playthrough. It’s normally a blessing when a character you have connected with arrives in a Star Wars piece of media. Star Wars has characters, it has so many characters in fact that you may have better luck reciting every gen Pokémon than every major character across the Star Wars series. Star Wars is a massive franchise, and the themes and tones of each series are vastly different. Older games will remember the experience of wall running, no don’t think parkour, think “face-checking” a wall by running past them to see if any of them happen to be fake walls that you can pass through.
