Helena Andrews-Dyer:Oscars co-host Regina Hall is single and this is going to be a thing. wasn’t invited, and then suddenly invited, to the Oscars — but things must have worked out behind the scenes, because she seemed delighted to make a joke about it as she presented the visual effects award with “Euphoria” actor Jacob Elordi.“I can’t believe we’re here tonight at the Oscars,” Elordi said. Still, that was the year “Ryan” was famously shut out of best picture by “Shakespeare in Love.” Could “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve steal the directing award tonight? He happens to have a recent collab with John Legend, who won the best song category (alongside rapper Common) in 2015 for “Glory” from “Selma.” Legend appears on the remix of Yatra’s It was a moment that solidified the existence of the director’s cut and gave a polished-off “Justice League” movie something it didn’t have in the original theatrical version: emotional stakes. The sudden interaction led to speculation over whether it was real or staged. At one point, Campion and her film seemed to be heavy favorites to win multiple awards tonight. The New Zealand director took home her first Oscar for “The Power of the Dog,” a searing Western that tackles the burden of masculinity. Smith continued that he “got to protect” his castmates during the making of the film, including best supporting actress nominee Aunjanue Ellis, who played Williams’s former wife Oracene, and young actresses Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton. The film became the first best picture winner to debut on a streaming platform (Apple TV Plus), and won every award for which it was nominated. But will anyone remember the rest of the show, with the most viral moment on everyone’s lips (or fingertips) since “La La Land” was erroneously given “Moonlight’s” best picture trophy just five years ago and Smith doing serious damage to his trademark good-guy image on the biggest night of his career? The show carried on with occasional references to the incident.

Will Smith took home the award for best actor shortly after a shocking moment when he appeared to slap Chris Rock across the face.
Performers and presenters were tested, but were not required to be vaccinated. But the show ran into controversy long before it even began, when it was announced in February that eight awards would be presented off air to shorten the broadcast and allow more time for scripted bits and musical numbers. Marlee Matlin, who also starred in "CODA" was the first Deaf actor to ever win an Oscar when she won Best Actress in 1987 for her role in "Children of a Lesser God."
