FA Cup semifinal draw: Manchester City face Liverpool (ESPN)

Manchester City have been drawn to face Liverpool in the FA Cup semifinals, while Chelsea will take on Crystal Palace.

The FA Cup encounter between City and Liverpool will mean two games in two weekends for the rivals with the sides due to meet in the Premier League on April 10. Eight-time FA Cup winners Chelsea were the first team to make it to Wembley, beating Middlesbrough 2-0 on Saturday thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Hakim Ziyech. City were originally drawn to face the winner of Nottingham Forest and Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp's side edging to a 1-0 victory thanks to a late strike from Diogo Jota.

Diogo Jota should've decided this tie far earlier, but his 78th-minute goal proved the winner as Liverpool eked out a 1-0 FA Cup win at Forest.

DF Virgil van Dijk, 7 -- Dealt well with Forest attacks that looked dangerous as the Championship side looked to find a way past Klopp's high line. MF Naby Keita, 8 -- Keita linked the play well in midfield and often looked like the Liverpool star most likely to make something happen. A perfect ball set up Jota for the opener. That was needed with the hosts making enough opportunities that could have resulted in a different story on another day. Close to giving away a penalty late on. Almost conceded through a mix-up in the second half but recovered well.

Premier League and FA Cup: 10 talking points from the weekend (The Guardian)

Forest come close to a Cup upset, Steven Gerrard tells Bukayo Saka to toughen up and Leicester's crisis looks to be over.

It was also predictable that there would be a hangover from Thursday’s memorable Europa League win against Sevilla. Happily for the Hammers, they would get the best of both worlds if they can win the Europa League, booking themselves a place in next season’s Champions League via a different route. It should be put as – how well have West Ham done to stay in the race until the last part of season.” Defeatism or realism from Moyes? Surely it was the latter: he is correct that West Ham have been punching above their weight, and his attempt to manage expectation is entirely understandable. “Bednarek has a big game for Poland next week and it seemed to me he is not 100% with his mind for us here today,” the manager said. The gap between the WSL leaders and the Championship’s bottom side is a big one, but a sturdy first half should give Coventry plenty of positives as they look to climb off the bottom after suffering a 10-point deduction for their financial difficulties at Christmas. The team have clawed back five points since then and sit nine points behind Watford – the team they face in the last game of the season. It was a surprise to see Jan Bednarek omitted from the Southampton lineup for the FA Cup visit of Manchester City – and indeed the match-day squad. “We created a lot of chances to score more goals and this is how we need to grow up, we need to kill the game,” said the Wolves head coach. “I didn’t want to take the risk that he doesn’t make the last step to hurt himself.” It is certainly a big game for Poland. Bednarek’s team will face either Sweden or the Czech Republic on Tuesday week in a play-off for the World Cup finals. An impressive 10 players are on professional contracts and the club have some of the best talent in the country. Eze against Everton was a reminder that he might just end up the best of that group. Forest caused Jürgen Klopp’s men problems and had the chances to win the match outright but a lack of ruthlessness with the opportunities they created left Cooper’s side to ponder a couple of marginal decisions that could easily have gone the other way. That’s all on the back of earning a living in English football. They almost certainly would have been awarded a spot-kick had Ryan Yates altered his direction slightly and aimed to draw more significant contact from Alisson, the kind of trick pulled so often by Premier League forwards for the benefit of the video assistant referee.

The third was scored in bizarre fashion as Olise’s mis-hit shot looped onto the post and provided a tap-in for Zaha, before Hughes scored in similar fashion from a rebound after Jordan Pickford saved brilliantly from Conor Gallagher. It is the first time Palace have beaten Everton twice in the same season as the Merseysiders were unable to build on their league victory over Newcastle United on Thursday and are now left to concentrate on their relegation fight. Everton started the brighter and created a number of opportunities in the opening 20 minutes, but as the game wore on the home side took control and booked a semi-final place as Wilfried Zaha and Will Hughes scored late on.
