Pro promised she'd learn from her meltdown. She proved it Sunday. (Golf.com)

Nanna Koerstz Madsen, who had a nightmare finish at last year's Women's Open, eagled the second hole of a playoff to win the LPGA Thailand.

On 17, Koerstz Madsen parred, and Lin birdied. “I’m really proud,” Koerstz Madsen said last August. “I had a chance all the way till 18, also on 18 fairway. On 16, Koerstz Madsen bogeyed, and Lin parred. On the par-5 18, Koerstz Madsen missed an 8-footer for par, Lin birdied from 4 feet, and they returned to 18 for the first hole of the playoff. I believe that I can win out here, so that’s just what I been chasing for the last year.” It was actually fun playing the playoff with Janet at the end.

Nanna Koerstz Madsen made a birdie and an eagle to win the Honda LPGA Thailand in a playoff. In doing so, she earned her first career LPGA win and the first ...

Koerstz Madsen couldn’t get up and down and had to settle for a bogey. Had Madsen’s double been a par, she would’ve been in a playoff with Nordqvist. On that day in Carnoustie, she talked about how nervous she’d been, how she was out there trying to not make mistakes. She was on the 18th at Carnoustie, and a shank led to a double bogey. Nanna Koerstz Madsen finished regulation play at the Honda LPGA Thailand tied with Xiyu Lin with a tournament record score of 26 under, then made an eagle on the second playoff hole to secure her first LPGA Tour title. But in 2021, she demonstrated her potential by finishing in the top five in two majors and earning her first start in a Solheim Cup for Team Europe. She was T-3 at the ANA Inspiration, but seven shots off the lead. Koerstz Madsen isn’t exactly a household name in the U.S., but if you’ve been paying attention, you knew this win would come.

Nanna Koerstz Madsen eagles second playoff hole at Honda LPGA ... (usatoday.com)

Denmark's Nanna Koerstz Madsen made history on Sunday, winning the Honda LPGA Thailand with an eagle on the second playoff hole.

Koerstz Madsen, whose fiancé Nicki Hansen caddies for her on tour, caught a flier on the par-5 18th hole in regulation that led to a closing bogey. Saso’s round tied the tournament low set by Jessica Korda in 2018. Both competed on the victorious European Solheim Cup team at Inverness in 2021. Koerstz Madsen is known for sometimes carrying lemons in her golf bag that she sucks on to help keep her calm and focused. Koerstz Madsen became the first player from Denmark to win on tour. Lin closed with a 6-under 66 on the steamy Old Course at Siam Country Club.
