“We’ve seen a call for more communication, more empathy,” Smith-Kea continued. To attempt to change this, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced Tuesday a new initiative aimed at hiring more women, an ABC News affiliate reports. As part of the initiative, the police department is participating in the 30×30 Pledge — a goal to increase women in police department recruit classes to 30 percent by 2030 and “to ensure police policies and culture intentionally support the success of women officers throughout their careers.”

Companies flooded Twitter with International Women's Day ... (Fortune)

A Twitter bot is shaming companies posting International Women's Day tweets with their gender pay gap figures.

“I think it is cowardly to delete your post after being called out because this is an opportunity for you then to change the conversation," Lawson says. She told Fortune: “What I get annoyed at with International Women’s Day and any awareness event that is linked to a social issue, so say Pride, Black History Month, it's all the same. The bot became so popular that after some companies were called out, they deleted tweets and reposted them without the hashtag so as to not be associated with the quote tweet. This is my life you’re prescribing to me, and it doesn’t match the reality.’” After the University of Exeter's International Women's Day tweet was quote-tweeted by the bot, noting that women's median hourly pay is 20% lower than men's, the university deleted the post and reposted it, supposedly due to a typo. The bot, @PayGapApp, which has over 75,000 followers, replied to every corporate tweet that used the hashtag #IWD2022 with a quote tweet highlighting the salary disparity between men and women in the company—a figure that is publicly available on the U.K. government website.

A Talking Circle to celebrate International Women's Day (unknown)

In Niagara County Tuesday afternoon, a Native American model will shine a light on International Women's Day.

"I believe that it is through the power of our words, that they're directed in a way that will help us to believe in each other and know that it's safe, that we're in good hands." "I kind of think a war shoots humanity in the foot and sets us back. "We need to shed a light on it and to settle it, to find out what we can do to change it, because that injustice against our people was directly to genocide. Tuesday's will be held in the "empowering" and "healing" tradition that was handed down from her Tuscarora elders. "I have gotten to study all different religions, all the different types of beliefs, and I know that this Talking Circle is powerful. It was right in the center of Haudenosaunee territory where it happened.

The Women of Made Smarter Innovation (unknown)

Subsequent varied management roles in the support sector have seen Nicole develop and collaborate in technology & innovation strategies in a whole variety of companies in a plethora of sectors. Since joining Made Smarter Innovation, Natalie has become an EDI advocate at Innovate UK, a champion for equality, diversity and inclusion within the challenge team. But we must lead by example and celebrate the women in the manufacturing sector and their diverse backgrounds to inspire the next generation of manufacturers.

Purple, along with green and white are considered the colors of International Women’s Day, according to the website. In 1910, at the second International Conference of Working Women, a gathering of women from activist and political organizations in Copenhagen, the idea of an International Women’s Day was proposed and approved. These colors have roots in the United Kingdom’s Women’s Social and Political Union from the early 1900’s. The day would be observed for the first time the following year on March 19, 1911 in several European countries. The day also calls for action to advance gender equality. “Are you in?

Advancing gender equality in the context of the climate crisis and disaster risk reduction is one of the greatest global challenges of the 21st century.

Continuing to examine the opportunities, as well as the constraints, to empower women and girls to have a voice and be equal players in decision-making related to climate change and sustainability is essential for sustainable development and greater gender equality. As exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic and social fallout impacted women and girls disproportionately, further challenging their ability to withstand the impacts of the climate and environment crises. We have the opportunity to benefit from the leadership of women and girls environmental defenders and climate activists to guide our planet’s conservation.

Statement by President Joe Biden on International Women's Day ... (The White House)

On International Women's Day, we recognize the achievements of women and girls in the United States and across the globe, celebrate the progress we've.

And it’s why I’m proud that my FY 2023 Budget will request $2.6 billion for foreign assistance programs that promote gender equality worldwide, more than doubling the amount requested for gender programs last year. It’s why we’ve invested in child care and supported women’s economic opportunity through the American Rescue Plan; fought to reauthorize and strengthen the Violence Against Women Act; addressed the scourge of sexual assault in the military through sweeping military justice reforms; signed the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act into law; launched a whole-of-government effort to protect reproductive rights; advanced women’s participation in conflict prevention and resolution, stability and security; and created a Gender Equity and Equality Action Fund to promote the economic security of women around the world. Ensuring that every woman and girl has that chance isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s also a strategic imperative that advances the prosperity, stability, and security of our nation and the world.
