Billionaire Roman Abramovich's yacht is 'the prize to seize' amid ... (Page Six)

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich's $500 million megayacht Eclipse is the prize piece the international community wants to seize from the oligarchs.

“I will use all legal means to protect my honor and reputation.” At 15,917 tons, the 156-meter superyacht features entertainment and recreation spaces never before seen on a yacht. Usmanov reportedly bought Dilbar in 2016 for $600 million, custom-built by German shipbuilder Lürssen, which describes it as “One of the most complex and challenging yachts ever built, in terms of both dimensions and technology. Multibillionaire Usmanov’s fortune spans stakes in iron ore and steel giant Metalloinvest and consumer electronics firm Xiaomi, Forbes also reported. One Russian source told Page Six, “Yachts generally do not have bulletproof glass and antiballistic missile defenses. Abramovich — who has always denied a personal link to Putin — nevertheless has been in Belarus helping with cease-fire talks with the Ukrainians on behalf of the Russians.

Roman Abramovich Is Selling Chelsea For £3Billon, Proceeds To ... (Complex)

After saying he would be handing “stewardship and care” of the club over to its foundation trustees, the news was confirmed last night, March 2.

I would like to address the speculation in media over the past few days in relation to my ownership of Chelsea FC. As I have stated before, I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart. Chelsea Football Club and its supporters will always be in my heart. I will not be asking for any loans to be repaid. To play a match on the same day, where focus is absolutely key, is not so easy and makes it a bigger performance. Let’s wait and see for the best and see what the day brings. Speculation quickly spread like wildfire and rumours persisted that Ambramovich would in fact be selling the club.

Roman Abramovich: The Chelsea owner who changed English football forever - The Warm-Up (Eurosport.com)

As Chelsea's benefactor Roman Abramovich looks to get rid quickly, we consider just how his time in charge of Chelsea, and all that money, changed the game in England and beyond. · THURSDAY'S BIG STORIES.

To be clear, we're not taking the job of the pundit to be one of calm, studied analysis, or sober reflection, or accurate prediction. No. The job of the pundit is to perform a particular role for the television, such that the dead time around a football match is worth watching, and Keane is the best "Roy Keane" that anybody's ever pointed a camera at. The answer, it turns out, is "pretty well". Of course, a cup tie is a completely different beast to the week in, week out grind of a league season. This is a political question, and there is almost no political will from half the continent's superclubs. They are the only team in the top 10 of the Championship that hasn't played in the top flight since it went all Premier League. But flip that around and there's an interesting question about the search for levels: Luton are, after all, in the middle of the scrap for the play-off places. Against the actual World Champions. Against £1.5bn of debt in human form. But there is, perhaps, a chance for English football to look at this first injection of private billions into the game and consider what happened, and whether much of what happened was good, in the round, and how best to go on from here. The logics of the billionaire superclub still apply. But Chelsea are part of the current ecosystem of European football, in which all the major leagues are distorted by the presence of superclubs. If nothing else, this shows that exposing clubs to the swings and roundabout of international geopolitics can get very strange, very quickly. Third, the raising of the bar.

Chelsea Legend John Terry Slammed In UK Parliament Over Roman Abramovich Tweet (unknown)

John Terry has been criticized in UK parliament after the former Chelsea captain praised Roman Abramovich on Twitter.

One told him to "Try thinking of other people for a change", while another wrote: "You should be ashamed. In the statement Abramovich said that he "will not be asking for any loans to be repaid." He also vowed to pass on "all net proceeds" from the sale to a new charitable foundation to help "all victims of the war in Ukraine".

Roman Abramovich may not face UK sanctions for months (unknown)

Wealthy Russians living in "Londongrad," like Abramovich, could be free of UK sanctions for a while because of legal complications, people say.

That effort is complicated by budget cuts to the National Crime Agency, which helps gather evidence for sanctions, according to a person who briefed on the government’s plans. There has been little time to see how U. K. judges handle sanctions challenges. While the U. K. sanctions system largely mirrors the EU’s, there are differences, including the mechanisms to challenge a decision. Amid a growing perception of U. K. foot-dragging, another person familiar with the matter said ministers are considering emergency legislation to speed up the sanctions response. On Wednesday, he said he is selling Chelsea and has instructed the board to set up a charitable foundation that will get all net proceeds from the sale. Russia’s Ukraine invasion is the first big test for the U. K.’s post-Brexit sanctions regime, which came into force in 2020.
